One rather annoying bug is that it is impossible to return the clip colour tab in a bin back to the original green after you may have changed it to another colour. A small matter but since you asked…..!

Thanks Floh, yet ANOTHER disadvantage of editing in HD!

Floh I tried what you suggested and neither had any effect, I still can’t see dissolves or the opacity adjustment without rendering first, what next?

Thanks Dave, good news because I too have just expended a ridiculous sum on the new HD system 10.1.3 and then feared it may be obsolete. As Peter says Media 100 is wonderful to use and I am glad I stuck with it. Is there likely to be any way to master out to tape other than through SDI? There are times when I would like to master in DV to my Sony DSR 20 but that would require firewire out. Currently I have to rent an HDCAM deck for mastering and that is huge and very expensive, even for one day.

Thanks a lot Floh, always such prompt replies from you. I will experiment on the lines you suggest.

How do you propose mastering to tape from Media 100 HD? No firewire out, only SDI, so you can’t go back to the DSR 20. I have the same issues.

This is why I decided on my post production route for HDV very early on in the proceedings. I acquire (wonderful pictures) with the Sony Z1 HDV camera, convert through the Convergent Design box to uncompressed HD and edit in Media 100 HD. No timecode problems since I don’t try and batch digitize (can’t as we all know). The downside is of course the huge external storage requirement and the cost of renting an HDCAM deck for mastering the finished programme. As someone on this thread has written, HDV is an acquisition format solely.

Thanks Kieran, I spoke to them. The hoops I have to go through to open an account you wouldn’t believe! My bank assuring them that I am OK is not nearly enough but I will go through the hoops ‘cos I need the deck! Their price is slightly higher than you said but not dramatically so. Once again many thanks.

You are under a slight misaprhension I think. The Sony HDV camera (Z1) is not recording in the HD that can be edited in HD. I have one and in order to edit on my Media 100 HD version 10.1.3 I have to convert the media through the Convergent Design box to full HD. You can edit on your Media 100i system if you downconvert the HDV (either from the camera or Sony HDV deck) to DV and digitize through firewire. The downconverted picture is excellent and you should have no problems, but you won’t have HD or even HDV.

March 10, 2006 at 7:07 pm in reply to: Convergent Design HD Connect LE – Whos got one?I have just got my box and it seems fine after some early ‘blips’. It is working fine converting HDV into HD uncompressed which my Media 100 HD acquires successfully and I have machine control. You are right in saying that we cannot batch digitize but I believe that is as much to do with the rather ‘toy’ Sony deck as with the Convergent Design box.
