Well you can select the same profile for both, but that douse not mean that they will look the same.

For the best results get a external calibrator that you place on the displays to calibrate them.

July 28, 2007 at 1:58 am in reply to: FCP file output for playing DVD on PCs

It sounds like some of the windows computer he is using do not have proper DVD playing software or plugins to play ANY DVD.

Even if they have windows media player the computer may not have a DVD MPEG plug in that is needed to play a DVD.

If this is the case there is nothing that you can do to make a video DVD play on that computer, it is up to them.

Also they may not even have a DVD rom drive on the computer, if they are OLD they may not have one.

A decint audio file alone for a 3+ hour video is going to be way to big to email to someone, and that is without any video which is the biggest part. Even to use a FTP your file size is going to be vary big for a 3+ hour video, even at a low quality you are still talking several gigs.

[Peterd] “Sadly I’ve found going from HDV footage to an SD DVD using software to downcovert leaves much to be desired. It takes lots tweaking and playing around to get the SD DVD to look ok.”

I have always found that Shooting HDV and delivering a SD DVD delivers a far superior image then I ever got from shooting DV.

[JoeProcopio] “i hate to say it, but if you are going to do any HDV work, and output HDV, then a new 8 core Intel is in your future…”

    TOTALY UNTRUE
I edit HDV on a Dual 2.5 G5 all the time and have no problems at all. Your processors are better then mine, but you do need to upgrade your ram.

HDV footage, if captured as HDV takes up no more space then DV footage. If you capture using the Apple Intermediate Codec then it will take up more space.

As with any video editing you should keep the video on a separate drive not on the main system drive.

  • What format drive are you exporting to?
