April 21, 2009 at 1:57 amBlu-ray is here to stay and is being adopted even faster than DVD was adopted. If Apple ever updates DVD Studio Pro, Blu-ray will be a part of it.
I should also add this article:
https://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/mar/10blu-ray.html
Apple knows what they’re doing.

April 21, 2009 at 4:22 amIm been calling it and will continue to call it!! Apple will NOT be releasing a Blu Ray authoring package anytime in the near future – if at all.
1. Too expensive (haha! dont think it will be included free in any future version of FCS)
2. Small market penetration for the independent producer. How many independent film do you see on BD?
3. its a big bag of hurt 🙂

Russel, I think that you are too young to remember the arrival of the music CD and the DVD.
The scene was completely different. Consumers all around the world were waiting for a replacement to tapes based systems. Discs was the best and cheaper technology available. Everybody was really excited and wanted that NOW.
I think that things are quite different in this moment.
Four years have been sitting Apple in the BR Disc Association Board of directors, and what has come out?
The CD was considered an “official’ format when the EMI printed to CD their Beatles collection. It took a certain time for them to take the decision, but not that long.
So what I think is that big companies (like Apple) didn’t jump to the BR train is because they don’t see the things clear at all.
There is a real world-wide demand for BR? (Or better, there is a real world-wide demand for HD?)
There is not a better option than BR?
Will be people buying movies in BR in fifteen years time?

How young do you think I am:) I grew up listening to an 8 track of kenny rogers in my parents Chrysler La Baron. It was rocking!
My thought is that even though Apple is pushing the whole iTunes HD movie stuff, there is still a lot of money to be made by including Blu-ray in the next version of FCP. If they don’t, everyone’s going to complain and call them dumb.
Remember, it’s been almost three years since DVD Studio Pro has seen a upgrade, They’re going to come out with something, and it’s not going to be half baked.

April 21, 2009 at 5:57 amWhat statement are your referring to?
“Blu-ray is just a bag of hurt. It’s great to watch the movies, but the licensing of the tech is so complex, we’re waiting till things settle down and Blu-ray takes off in the marketplace.”
-Steve Jobs, Oct 2008It’s not necessarily a positive statement for Blu-ray hopefuls, but it’s they’re not saying it won’t happen sometime.
Is there a different statement that I’m missing?

Well, you look really young in the pictures:-)
You mention the 8 track cartridges. That was a revolution. BR isn’t.

April 21, 2009 at 12:52 pmGood question.
With my luck I would spend $3000 and get geared up
and then – Apple would release a Blu-Ray upgrade for $300.
If they don’t then I will send the clients to you.
