  • Thumbnail creation causes Vegas 12 to crash

Posted by Larry Brewer on February 11, 2013 at 5:14 am

Why would Vegas 12 crash when I switch the view from details to thumbnails in my project media window? When I switch the view to thumbnails, Vegas starts creating thumbnails, but freezes before finishing all the thumbnails for the window then fails to respond.

Not seeing that here, tried replicating it but not getting
any crash or hangs. Maybe one of your file Vegas is creating
a thumbnail view for is corrupt or damaged in some way.

    Steve
Thank you for the quick reply. I uninstalled the current build 486 of Vegas 12, and re-installed build 367. This ended the crashing. Build 486 had mentioned in the release notes… “Display of thumbnail images in the Project Media window has been refreshed.” whatever that means.

Understand that in the project I’m working on I have 7 clip bins, each with 400 to 600 clips. That is a lot of thumbnails. I have always felt that thumbnail creation in Vegas was slow, and was constantly re-creating thumbnails that it had already created.

While build 367 fixed the crashing problem related to thumbnail creation, the slow thumbnail creation, the rebuilding of thumbnails continues.

So it will be interesting to see if anyone else with a very large project has similar issues with thumbnail creation when using build 486.

I have the same problems as you with the new build. After a fresh install of vegas and build 486 I get instant freeze when the thumbnails are trying to display. I then tried a new project and imported one .mxf sony xdcam clip and instant freeze. If I import a avchd clip…no problem. If you want to see the .mxf clip in 12, you can do it from the explorer tab, but if you use the project tab it will freeze.
I have been on both forums stating this problem and all I get is ” reinstall windows and reinstall vegas ”
So it’s back to version 11 to get my work done.
I have been a user since ver 3 and have NEVER been so frustrated with vegas.

Very interesting. Going back to Vegas 11 isn’t an option for me as I have too much time invested in current Vegas 12 project, and it won’t open in Vegas 10 or 11. Here’s a link to earlier Vegas versions and builds. I used build 367.

Yes, I had to finish up my 12 projects using explorer to get clips in and other hoops.
I’m starting my new project in 11 until 12 gets fixed. Thanks for the older build info.

    GPU is Vegas’s Achilles’ heel.

Turned GPU off a long time age. And it was the first thing I checked when this problem first occurred.

GPU Technology…Was gonna be problematic for some software
and users alike, primarily because of the varied manufacturers,
Driver versions, Video Card series, what version works best with
this and which works best with that, update your ZXC95BPD drivers
to the latest ZXC95DPX version……Ahhh COME ON!
