    Hi Guys,

I’m 100% sure I have found a solution to this problem and it is very simple and relates to this workaround.

There’s a similar thread about this on the Sony Vegas forum and here’s the workaround, courtesy of Paddy from Sony.

Please navigate to the following folder (make sure hidden files and folders are being shown):

    C:Users[your user name]AppDataLocalSonyVegas Pro12.0Media Pool Thumbnails

Select all of the contents of this folder, and delete them. Then launch Vegas again, and you should be back in business.

Basically, I tried this workaround and when I went to open Sony Vegas 12 it opened ok but just “hung” trying to find the thumbnails.

Anyway, I also have Sony Vegas 12 on my other laptop which runs without a problem. Thumbnails and all! BUT!!!!! What I did notice was that there is a .BIN file in the “Media Pool Thumbnails” folder called “media_thumbnail_cache.bin”.

On my working laptop that file is associated to an eeprom program I use to program my RC-Radio Transmitter (Turnigy-9XR.
On the non-working laptop, that file is associated with a video player I use called “VLC MediaPlayer”.

Now, I decided to see if changing it’s association would help so I loaded the eeprom software onto my laptop, changed the “media_thumbnail_cache.bin” association to the eeprom program and Wallah!

Sony Vegas 12 back up and running again!!

I’m convinced this will also work with other versions as I have tested it on (Builds 367,486,770) as well as SV13Pro.

If you would like to test this for yourself then you can either change the association to another program or install the eeprom software I used from here: https://code.google.com/p/eepe/

It’s a small program and won’t harm your computer and will basically be redundant unless you plan to use it like me.

Anyway, Hope this helps! Cheers! 🙂
