  • Sony Vegas 11 – Very slow playback in Preview window

Issue: Whenever I edit anything in sony vegas 11 (64 bit) I have to suffer through the shocking playback rate in the preview window. I get an adverage of 3 frames per second (if i’m lucky), and it doesn’t matter what preview quality I view the project in; I still get 3 fps. Just to add insult to injury; Whenever vegas wants to have a break, It does. It constantly freezes from the simplest actions and it’s driving me insane!

    System Specs:
    Windows 7 – 64 bit
    Intel core i7 – 3770k (3.50GHz)
    Gigabyte GTX560 1GB PCI-E Graphics Card
    Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
    Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 16GB 1600MHz
    2TB internal Hard Drive SATA
    120GB SSD (internal)

I am working with .png Image sequences at a 30fps video frame rate. I have enables Graphics acceleration and it seems to make no difference. Also I have enables vegas to use 8256mb of RAM for the programme. Yet, Dis bite all of my expensive equipment I am having serious issues editing videos in sony vegas 11. I have been trying everything to make my editing more enjoyable by trying to upgrade my system specs and up/downgrading my sony vegas version.

Does anybody have any help to fix my preview framerate issues that i’m encountering (without having to RAM preview on every section). I just want to be able to edit with no worry of preview lag.

Thanks in advanced for any help that you provide 🙂

Render a small sample of your image sequence to something simple. Try a simple AVI. Bring that back to a NEW project Timeline and report back here.

    Grazie

    – Graham Bernard:
Ok, I started a new project and imported a .avi that was the 4 second image sequence.
Unfortunetly still no luck. I still have the same problem as before, I have noticed that below the preview window when it skipps through frames there is a area called “frame” and it has “….” when i try to play the clip. Would this be anything that would help you identify my problem?

How are you creating your image sequences?
I deal with animators who give me a long series of images as well as time lapse sequences from cameras such as the Go Pro.
    Here’s how I do it.

    File > Import.
Browse to the folder these files are in and click on the first image in the sequence.
At the bottom of this window, click the Open still image sequence box.
Make sure the range is correct and click Open.
Set any desired options (such as alpha channel) in the box that comes up and click OK.
The sequence is converted to a file that can be dropped on your Vegas timeline.

Yeah, I am an animator and I do just that 😀
I use Cinema 4D to export a sequence at 30fps and then I do what you have said above.
Unfortunetly this gives me a headache when coming to the editing stages due to it still being laggy in the preview window.
