Sony Vegas 11 – Very slow playback in Preview window

What version of Pro 11 are you using?
Have you installed any codec packs such as K-Lite?
What else do you have installed on your computer?

I have sony vegas pro 11 (64 Bit) Build 683
I have installed K-Lite before but it said a load of registry files were broken, it says it every time (so I guess it has something to do with it but I don’t know how to fix it). I haven’t installed any more codec packs due to k-lite being the only one I know of.

As far as “What else do you have installed on your computer?”. I have pretty much; Sony Vegas, Cinema 4D R14 and a few games off steam. I have 1.5TB of free hard drive space so i’m sure that’s not an issue

That’s what I was afraid of 🙁
This codec pack is well known to be hazardous to Vegas users as it can replace your known good codecs with inferior ones – without your knowledge.
If you ever find the need for a code, use either GSpot or MediaInfo to figure out which one you need and then download only that codec from a reputable source.

At this point in time, I recommend wiping your hard drive and doing a fresh install of Windows. After that, reinstall only the programs you need.
If you don’t already have it, I recommend buying a copy of something like Acronis and start doing regular backups of your system. That way, if and when something like this happens, you can be back up and running quickly.

Well that sucks, BUT…
I guess this is a good thing for others. If someone else has this issue, They can come here and see the solution.

I am going to build a new PC soon and i’ll ensure i don’t install any of the k-Lite codecs.

Hi guys. I’m just gonna throw in something. I’ve literally been having the same issues but I don’t have the K-Lite codec pack. I have a video and I need to watch the whole thing flawlessly because I’m going to be talking and all that over the top. I’ve closed all programs and processes (which are not important and that I know are not important) and still nothing. It was captured using Dxtory (an alternative to Fraps), using the Lagarith Codec. It was recorded at 1080p (16:9) @ 60fps. No issue in sound or when using RAM preview. I just can’t watch it without the frame rate dropping to around 1-19. It doesn’t stay still either. I did try something else with Fraps, using their codec (no idea what and I don’t know how to change either. It’s a very linear software) and I have no idea what’s going on. This is a new PC with Vegas Pro 12 and I’m having no luck. I’ve been using vegas for a while and on my old, really bad, PC, I was “Shift-B”-ing all over the place but now, it should work. NOTE: This isn’t just a small clip I can “Shift-B”. Here are my specs:

i7 3770k
32GB RAM
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7950
2TB Internal Storage (Split into 2 partitions and on 1st partition containing OS)
1TB (USB 2.0) External Hard Drive
2 x 2TB (USB 3.0) External Hard Drive (connected by a High-speed USB Hub that is connected with it’s own power source.)
2 x HD BenQ Monitors connected to GFX Card.

I’ve just included anything I thought of incase it makes a difference.

Any ideas?
