Region Naming Script Needed
Posted by Jay Mitchell on October 31, 2015 at 8:19 pmAre there any scripts that will automate region naming?
I need a script that will see all of the regions that I make on the timeline and give them a sequential number name that I can then use Vegasuar to burn in as a watermark.

October 31, 2015 at 8:56 pmHere is an example of what I need with the first region being named D875-C-001 and thereafter sequential like below.
D875-C-001, D875-C-002, D875-C-003, etc…
I am repeatedly creating several hundred regions from long files that I can’t break up and it is laborious to name each one manually.

November 1, 2015 at 12:54 amHow do you select “all events”?
I do have “entire project” and “at events” selected as in your photo.

November 1, 2015 at 1:02 amJust select the events on the timeline. E.g. Select first event on timeline, right-click and select Select Events to End. Then all events will be highlighted. Then go to markers window, configure the regions as shown, and then select apply on top of window.

November 1, 2015 at 1:09 amDuh… I should have known that. So easy a cave man can do it 🙂
The Vegasaur naming did not like my naming convention D329-C-001.
It is not picking up the -C-
But, did do D329-1 on the first region.I will try all of this again with “Select All” and see if it works…
Thanks Wayne – – Much appreciated

November 1, 2015 at 1:20 amJust a thought. It may treat the – as the end of base name. Try changing your – to _ and see if that works. I’m not at my editing PC at the moment, so I can’t try it. I’m dealing with trick or treaters at the moment.

November 1, 2015 at 3:37 pmI also tried this in V10 and it works the same. Here are a couple of screen shots. First, make sure that your timeline events are selected. Note that they have all turned blue. Then configure your create marker window as shown. It is the exact same as I posted earlier.
Once you hit the apply button, the timeline will look like this.
It really sounds like all of you your timeline events are not being selected, just the first one. If you are still having problems, then upload a screen shot of your timeline and also your marker creation window.
