My pleasure. I’m in the same boat really, love cutting in X, want to tear my hair out when I hit certain workflow bottlenecks. It just keeps getting better though, so I keep slogging away. I’m pretty sure most of the hair pulling stuff will get sorted out eventually. Or I hope it will. What keeps me in it is the way it works when I cut. Traditional timelines are really annoying to me now.

And with Media Composer when it first appeared on the planet. Talk about workflow issues!
But seriously you are the best advocate for X around – mainly because you never overestimate the virtues.

I dunno about that, I’m just selfish. The more people in my tiny niche use X, the more likely it is that I’ll be able to continue using it. Really, at this point, it’s pretty easy to move stuff between X, 7, and Pr (MC, not so much…) So maybe I’ll get my wish even if nobody uses it. 🙂

sweet jesus don’t go there – the bridge under which you are having this conversation Ubsdell – no seriously, there are drips – look up – that is a heavy brick-laid bridge Simon, and there may indeed be a person living directly under it.
as to say – there actually is. I’m not even sure this is metaphorical.
my little piddle of pish: the original sin was committed by jobs. He effectively killed pro editing software by looking at the first cut demo (adobe audition in late 2006) and by waving a maniac’s magic wand he declared it the future of editing. that is actually kind of out there as a thesis as it were.
Its a perfect latter day retrospective reality.The poisonous despot diktat Jobs laid down that day after seeing first cut demoed, as Randy Ubillos walked away quietly confused, trying to fundamentally reconsider what he had presented for footage ingest and categorisation for FCP – as now being the basis for the entirety of apple’s broader approach to editing… first appeared in iMovie 09 and then subsumed all pro editing. Or like FCP basically. this rather side steps the chicken and the egg.
The villain, as such, is the maniacal vegetable eating totalitarian who viewed that first cut demo. And made an instant decision. (that stuff really is out there – core apple people were disengaging intellectually from the broader perception of pro-editing as early as 06 apparently)
but the villainous moment belongs to jobs alone and how he perceived what he saw – he watched a first stage footage categorisation for FCP demo, that included skimming and a simplified timeline (we at a stretch know skimming because it was right there in that era’s iphoto) and he, jobs, stamped his gnarly fist on the table and said that was editing.
that is the moment of original sin. That’s when tracks and everything else died. It just took a number of years. And a massive concurrent expansion of the company that completely reshaped their essential role.
But still, do consider: in a, say, twenty minute (?) presentation he watched a long time ago, the total lunatic took an instant taste call and that was all apparently all that.

I only include this clip to the extent that steve jobs was probably highly intimidating. Galactically intimidating. I can’t conceive what that was like at close quarters – i’ve worked with some types, but you never felt the string really pulling at you where you knew they were basically geniuses – Was Randy Ubillos realistically going to argue with him? was anyone?
meanwhile, PPro looks surreally amazing. that’s quite a little gift from the debacle.
