I can't get ropes to stop infinitely stretching when connected to other objects

November 18, 2024 at 3:28 amI moved the connector tag from the spline to the cube and now it moves around and is connected. However, the rope now doesn’t bend as all. It’s just a completely stiff rope that moves around ‘correctly’ but doesn’t bend or curve at all like a rope would. The rope just changes length completely dependently on how far the cube is from the other end.
EDIT:
I changed your spline to uniform distribution of points, and it bends now.I also had to increase the number of points.
I moved the connector tag back to the spline and it works there now as well.
I think the issue was maybe the point distribution?
When I do the exact same thing in my scene file with the project I was working on it doesn’t work for some reason.

November 18, 2024 at 4:00 amNEW EDIT:
Ok, you won’t believe this, but by changing the point distribution on my spline in my scene–which was already set to uniform after I made the spline editable–to ADAPTIVE, the entire simulation now works perfectly.I think maybe the default distribution just needs to be changed for some reason to get it all to work.
BIZZARRE.
Everything I had read said it needed to be Bezier and Uniform.
I guess Adaptive is what works.
I tried changing from adaptive back to uniform and uniform will not allow the simulation to work. It just stretches to infinite.

November 18, 2024 at 11:23 amThank you very much for sharing with us what you have reached, Eric! so the problem is in the intermediate points, I also have it working on the Adaptive and not the Uniform, on Uniform there is a bug in the simulation as in the screen recording below, from the beginning, the file I sent you was supposed to work, but it seems that Uniform was the default setting for the intermediate points in your version so it did not work for you until you change it to Adaptive. If increasing the points and making them evenly spaced improves the simulation for you I will attach a link to a post in the forum explaining how to do this easily.

December 16, 2024 at 5:42 amunbelievable. Now suddenly, uniform works but not adaptive.
I literally changed nothing.
I wonder if a new version of C4D fixes this.

December 16, 2024 at 12:15 pmThere might be an update related to this, we could check through Maxon’s website because they publish with each update a list about issues touched by the update. The good thing is that we now know that this can be done on different versions with the frequency between Uniform and Adaptive.
Thanks!

January 22, 2025 at 2:58 pmThe issue you’re experiencing with the rope stretching infinitely when connected to a cloth simulation is likely due to the dynamics settings and constraints not being properly configured to maintain the rope’s length.
