Can you open a Vegas 14 project in Vegas 13?
Posted by Scott Sullivan on October 10, 2016 at 8:01 pmI despise Vegas 14 pro and want to go back. Is there any way to bring my work with me?
Thanks

October 10, 2016 at 8:33 pmWith that said, what is the general consensus? I have not upgraded from 13, and this is largely due to the fact that I generally skip the following upgrade and wait until the second upgrade, which would put me at Vegas 15. Because this is a major change for the Vegas software (new company), I am willing to be patient. But with that said, I am at a point where I have purchased a lot of plugins that meet my needs for vegas 13, and Vegas 13 meets my basic needs.
But, if I have to start over again, I may look elsewhere whenever that time comes. In short, what is everyone’s impression of Vegas 14 thus far? -

October 10, 2016 at 10:25 pmHi Scott,
When I tried, it didn’t work. It was a simple project (2 minutes) for testing Magix Vegas Pro 14 ( build 161). When I tried to load the project into Sony Vegas Pro 13 (build 453), I got the message that the project was created in a newer version.
However, I read a while back about a developer that created, I think a script file, that will load various projects into various versions. I’ll try to run it down and get a link….
Best Regards……George

October 10, 2016 at 10:29 pmSorry Scott, that’s not possible. Vegas 14 project files cannot be opened in Vegas 13.
That’s how its always been, newer version files are never compatible with older versions.Steve Rhoden (Cow Leader)

October 10, 2016 at 10:46 pmI am quite please with Vegas Pro 14. Rendering is on the slower side, as in previous versions, but everything else works perfectly fine on my computer. I acquired a licence for the Suite version.

October 10, 2016 at 10:57 pmForgot to tell that there is one annoying thing about Vegas 14 when using my Canon 60D. The rendered mp4, Full HD file looks as it it is interlaced, although correctly set to render in progressive mode. For me this is not critical because I seldom use the Canon 60D, and did not notice any problem regarding the files from the Lumix GH4 and the FZ1000 (4k and Full HD). In any case, I hope Magix will correct this problem.

October 11, 2016 at 6:22 amOne of the things I really like about VP13 is that I can open the files in VP12 also. There are times where this has saved me with a problem project file. I was hopeful that VP14 would retain backwards capability with at least VP13 but that didn’t happen.

October 11, 2016 at 8:29 amWhat seems to be possible is to copy/paste.
If you copy something to clipboard in Vegas 14, that is possible to paste in Vegas 13. (I tried ;))
So on timeline in V14 ctrl-A, ctrl-C, then ctrl-V in V13.
That brings all your events and event properties (and if locked to events, envelopes) into V13 (not sure about all effects, the basic effects work).
Then the track keyframes need the same: track motion -> select all keyframes, ctr-C, then in V13 paste them to the according track.
Composite levels and track compositing mode need manual adjustment, I guess.Best regards

October 11, 2016 at 10:23 amYes, it’s almost always been impossible to open a project in an earlier version of Vegas (although Vegas 13/12 may have been an exception). If you are going to copy and paste you will need to have both projects open at the same time as it will not normally work if you open them separately.
Incidentally (although I’ve never tried it and don’t know what affect it will have on quality), might not a render from version 14 with this rendered file then being opened in version 13 do the trick?
Richard
