Sony Vegas .Avi Issues! Please Assist!
Hello all,
I record videos on my PC with the full version of Bandicam, which saves the video as a .avi
I’ve tried to import the media but it keeps coming up with an error!
I’ve been searching endlessly, codecs dont work, and I need a solution.
Could someone please assist me? -

I hope you haven’t taken the desperate but misguided step of installing one of those “codec packs.”
Grab MediaInfo and look at what codec your file uses. Install *that* codec.
Looking at the Bandicam website, I see you can download the codec they recommend: https://www.bandicam.com/codec/
Seems to suggest it records in Mpeg1 or Mjpeg.
Have you tried this already?

STOP!
First off use MediaInfo to determine just WHAT is inside your AVI. It is a free downloadable interrogation s/w: Download MediaInfo
Get back here and tell us.

I did stupidly do the “K” pack. I uninstalled it though. I actually didn’t check the bandicam website to be honest. But here is what Mediainfo says:

So, you have xvid video and mp2 audio.
I remember having trouble with xvid showing up when I was using Vegas 10 or 11, 32-bit version.
I think you might have success by installing ffdshow: https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/
It’s a video-for-windows codec program. IIRC, that solved my xvid woes.
Having said that, xvid is not an ideal format to record to if you’re planning to edit it later.

Thank you! My recorder actually has a setting to record on for Sony Vegas specifically. I will do that next time. I am running Sony Vegas 12 Pro. I will get back to you and see if ffdshow works.

Can you play it on anything? VLC? I’m guessing it’s that XVID stuff that is throwing Vegas into a spin. The nearest I’ve got to this is this one:
XviD ISO MPEG-4 xvid.org (open source)
Can you even SETUP vegas in the project settings with those parameters? 15fps?
Try zapping it through G-Spot to see if you have the required CODECS installed. I can see a DI needing to be employed – sorry….

So I went to the link, ran it, and clicked install. I figure thats all that is needed to be done. Then I opened up SV again and tried to import the footage but it still says It cannot be opened. Although I can avoid this in the future, I do not want to scrap this episode. So I need to get this fixed temporarily.

Just installing this and that won’t help. You’ll need to go in and make sure it’s configured, too.
