Now I’m reading some people say to use TIFF sequences to retain the most fluid movement. Hmm…I’d guess that would take up so much space. Maybe Tiff sequences for the shortest animations and something else for the long ones?

I don’t know how to do either of those, hmm…
I’m assuming you were thinking of After Effects for the table “comp”..

Okay, sounds easy, that cleared things up for me. What did you mean about the field order? I think I’ve heard HD uses upper field, not lower. So what exactly are you saying to be careful about? Thanks.

Okay. So I would capture the HD footage normally (for whatever setting goes with that camera and tape) and just put it in a “SD sequence”? The only sequence I’ve ever used is DV. Is an “SD sequence” one of the sequence settings? All I know is right now I have the sequence rendering as DV and that I’m going to change it to ProRes eventually..

Hey Dave. If I rendered a PNG sequence and did what you said, set them at 1 frame each, to get all these still images in the right ratio for use in the project, what would the file be like coming into FCP? Would it be just a movie, or would all the images be separate files?
I’m confused because you talked about the FCP preferences settings being changable as far as the default length, but what settings are these? Settings for PNG sequences? And where are they? Thanks.
I’m just trying to understand what I’m going to do ahead of time (I don’t have a lot of time with this computer that has AE).

Oh, okay, thanks a lot. So the answer would be no, it doesn’t change those files in the sequence forever. Thanks.

June 18, 2011 at 11:23 am in reply to: Understanding sample rate / sample rate conversion? So isn’t it just easier to use Soundtrack Pro to convert each clip to 48 khZ? Why would I use Compressor instead?
If I use Compressor, what is the process I have to do so that literally nothing bad or different happens to the video? I’ve only used Compressor to put files on DVD.. I don’t know how to use it otherwise.

June 18, 2011 at 11:17 am in reply to: Understanding sample rate / sample rate conversion?Hmm. What you described kind of sounds much more complicated. I don’t know how to use Compressor to easily convert the files to 48 khZ. And then you’re saying use Soundtrack Pro? To do what? I don’t understand why you’re saying both..
My solution was just going to be using Soundtrack Pro instead of Final Cut to change each clip in the sequence. Is there reason why I shouldn’t do just that?
I’m having trouble understanding..thanks..

“As you point, making the size 1/2, 1/4/ 1/8..probably will make calculations easier for Photoshop (same idea than working with blocks and macroblocks), but shouldn’t affect the quality. “.
Well, it will affect the quality positively in the long run, rather than keeping them at the more detailed size. Is that what you mean?

That left me a little confused. So too high a resolution WILL negatively affect image quality because Final Cut Pro isn’t great at rendering it? What if it’s rendered and created in another program and the high quality render is imported into FCP?
The final answer seems to be that it’s safest to just take the picture into another program like Motion or After Effects . I’m doing that already, but I was just curious to know if I should have been making the REALLY high res pictures I have smaller if I’m not going in that tight..
