Okay. So I have the tapes, so capturing the original footage would obviously be better than taking DV-50 from the DVDs.

Now I have an interesting question. While I noticed that many of the clips have a drop in quality, there were a few clips that we took from tapes. I just don’t know which ones. Is there any way for us to figure this out by looking at the file size? Is captured footage going to consume much more space than footage taken from a DVD using MPEG Streamclip?

Someone told me to de-interlace. Then I asked about it and they said it would never change the quality of the footage. Why shouldn’t it be de-interlaced?

I read that some people swear by MPEG Streamclip and exporting using the DV setting. So that can’t be the problem, right? A person at the local television station told me to do it this way..

The pixillation and weirdness are visible when looking at the footage on the computer and even more visible once it gets burned onto DVD (though I don’t know if that’s just because it’s on a big screen and more noticeable).

The project will eventually be a DVD.

I get the footage from the DVDs he gives me, using MPEG Streamclip. I use the DV setting and select de-interlace video. I looked up that there’s better quality ways to extract the DVD footage than that, but I’m still thinking it looks so bad because it was put onto a DVD in the first place. Could I be wrong?

Do you get a lot of control with I Movie as to where it starts and stops and how long…?

I’m going to try to use Motion tonight. Is there something I should be doing with the images first before I do it? I read somewhere that I should convert them to .tiff, not .jpeg. Should they be certain dimensions (resolution) and is there a way to make them certain dimensions?? Thanks so much for anyone who responds to these questions..

Ok but is there a reason I’d want to use After Effects or Motion over doing it in Final Cut Pro? I haven’t really seen the end result of the ones I’ve experimented with in FCP so I don’t know how they’re going to look, but I’m curious to know if I should be using another program instead and why.
