Never heard of appfresh, but I suppose it is a possibility. Most apps now days automatically check for updates when you open them Illustrator included. The Apple apps just show up with the automatic software update built into the OS.
I would try getting rid of appfresh and see if anything else disappears (make a note of that is there by screen shot or at least noting how many items are in the applications folder.
Also make sure that no little green men, or little eager children are playing with your computer. When ever I have seen things supposedly disappear usually it is because someone else was messing with the computer.
Any thing showing up in the trash?

Well it could be because that computer is impossible, a G4 could never have an intel processor. G4 Processors were never made by Intel.

What OS are you running? I have 10.5 and there is nothing called print utilities in the utilities folder. Printing is controlled by the Print & Fax option in System preferences.

If you have FCP then you also have Soundtrack Pro, and that can do a LOT with audio.
What are you trying to do with the audio?

Thats nice and all but it has nothing to do with the question. The original poster is looking to play HDV footage captured on a Mac on a PC.
Was the footage captured with FCP? You did not say.
The codec that FCP uses for HDV only comes with FCP. You will need to convert the file to one that uses a different codec to be able to use it on the PC.

Cost isn’t his issue it is camera compatibility. Even Final Cut Express isn’t compatible with his type of camera.
You could of course use an IOHD to convert the HDMI signal to a firewire, but then you would have to lug that around china with you.
You could try capturing the video with iMovie 08 (I also do not know if your camera is supported by it) and then take those files into FCP. How well that will work I do not know.
Possibly the best solution would be to return your newly purchased camera a buy one that will play out over firewire.
Then again you could always wait and wish that they update FCP to support your camera.

You need to figure out what your personal hourly rate should be, and once you determine it NEVER compromise it. Accepting a low offer will only allow the customer to under pay you again in the future “but you did it for this much last time” is never something you want to hear. Also do not fall for it when they say, “if you do if for this much this time we will pay you full price next time” They will ether not come back or they will say “but you did it for this much last time”. It just not worth it.

One thing to remember about what you charge on your own and what you make working for another person, is they are two completely different worlds. There is plenty of over head in a business so an employee will NEVER make as much an hour as what the owner charges for one hours of work.

If your camera/deck will down-convert the HDV on play back (I know the Sony ones do) All you need a a standalone DVD Recorder with Firewire input. Play out SD on the camera/deck and let the recorder do the rest.

There is no way to crop whole capturing.
That thin line is somewhat common on some cameras, if the video is going back out to DVD then it will never get noticed at all. If it is going to web or any other format that will be viewed on the computer it is much easier to crop after you edit then before.

Try trashing the preference file for photoshop, if that does not work, then you will need to reinstall photoshop.
