    Hello,

I need to get HDV footage to a DVD as quick as possible, what I have been doing is capturing the HDV tapes through FCP and then exporting this to mpeg2 using Compressor, and then making a DVD of it in DVD studio pro. This takes a long time, about 10 hours per hour of footage. It’s exporting through Compressor which takes a long time.

Does anyone know of a quicker way of doing this?

    Thanks in advance.

Get an AJA Kona board. Set it up for HDV playback. Get a DVD Recorder. Hit Play on your timeline. Hit Record on the DVD Recorder.

Or layback your show to HDV tape and record to a DVD Recorder.

If you’re trying to make a high quality DVD, then what you’re doing is the only way unless you pick up some realtime MPEG-2 encoding hardware.

    Thanks Walter,

I was thinking a DVD recorder was the only other way.

    Thanks again.

If your camera/deck will down-convert the HDV on play back (I know the Sony ones do) All you need a a standalone DVD Recorder with Firewire input. Play out SD on the camera/deck and let the recorder do the rest.
