What are the read/wright speeds of the drive?

Not all MOV files are the same. A MOV file could be using any one of hundreds of codecs.
What is the codec of the stock footage file and what are your time line settings?

AVI files will cause problems if you attempt to edit them natively. You need to convert them to a proper editing codec before you edit.

True but Final Cut Express cannot use Pro Res. FCE is limited to DV and AIC codecs, nothing more.
So convert to DV or AIC then bring the files into FCE.

Your going to need to define “long” though. How many feet does the ting need.

What format does that camera shoot in? I have a hunch its h.264 and if it is you will need to convert to a proper editing codec before you bring files into FCP. You can search the cow for h.264 for more info.

Please read my previus post. I said you can install it from the snow leopard install disk.
Most of QuickTime 7 is installe into the OS so just copying the QuickTime player in the apps folder will no work.

Simply saying highest quality means nothing with out context, you did not give is so we had to ask. Highest quality settings will differ vastly depending on what you are trying to do.

Archival depends on how you plan on archiving. Tape, Hard Drive?
If its hard drive just simply export using current settings as this preserves the quality in which you edited in. And remember you cannot add quality only preserve it.As for projecting, those settings are going to be determined how how it is being projected.
