Like Tom said it could be processor related what is your processor speed.
I do multi cam edits on my MBP (2.66 GHz) all the time. Even though I shoot on a HDV camera wont edit in HDV I use ProRes.
A raid connected via eSATA is highly recommended though.

couldn’t quite figure out the real answer”Yes you can BUT it MUST be done from disks that came with the EXACT SAME MODEL computer. NO other disks will contain the drivers needed for the hardware of that machine. A retail 10.6 install disk will NOT work ether as the build of the OS on those disks is OLDER then the machine you are trying to put it on and therefore will NOT contain the needed drivers for the NEWER hardware.

First off HDV is NOT DV. It is a completely different format with different properties.
HDV is GOP and iFrame based codec (if you are going to be working in HDV you really should study up and learn about GOP and iFrame) Because of this structure, HDV does not play out FireWire like DV does.

That is exactly how QT X is supposed to me.

Thats because the old version is not meant to be installed that way.

Well to put it rather bluntly you kinda screwed things up. To get the QT X that really should be there back you are going to have to reinstall the OS. When you do that you can go under options on the install and choose to install QT7 also.
This information about QT X and QT 7 in Snow Leopard is easily available and if you rely on QT as much as it sounds like you really should have looked into the QT changes with Snow Leopard before installing it.

If you run Pro Apps it is ALWAYS recommended to do a clean install of any new OS.

Well at this point its going to take more then what can be done over a internet forum. I would recommend making an appointment at the Genius Bar at your closest Apple Store and let someone look at it in person.

Actually 99% full if its a 6TB drive.
You always want to leave minimum 10% free on a drive at all times. Because a 6TB drive = 6000GB that means that you should have at lest 600GB free at any time.
Figure out how much more space you will need to finish the project add that to the 600GB minimum free space you need on that drive and then free up that total amount of free space on the drive.

That post says absolutely NOTHING about the OS install disks letting you install just the mail app. The Disks are hardware specific but the ONLY thing that is different with the disks is the drivers and hardware support. They all still only let you install the complete OS. Disk 2 will contain things like iLife that can be installed separate but the Mail app is not part of that.
All this stuff with install disks is pointless it will not solve your problem, so lets just forget about it.

Well they are preference files so try looking in the preference folder for things related to mail.
Again do you have any BACKUPS that might contain good copies of these now corrupt preference files.
