Both those suggestions are great, but let’s take it one step further. I can certainly create a organic blob with either of those suggestions, now how do I get a particle effect to work with this? No I can’t apply tracker keyframes as particular does not have a destination property.

I’ve done this very thing using a tracker and Trapcode’s soundkeys. You can set the output of the waveform to include only the Y axis. Then for further refinement you can divide the expression by any number to soften the expression’s effects.
In your position expression, create a variable of “temp=this.complayer”. When you create your array enter 1 for x (ex. [1, temp, temp]. Now your variable will only be effecting the y and/or z values.

This doesn’t work in any font and I know my font has a copyright symbol in it as I can see it in Windows Character Map. Guess I will have to create one…. bummer.

Also, if your output is NTSC you should render in fields, especially for Avid as I’ve noticed it does a terrible job of interlacing Progressive renders.
