Thanks Dave, thanks heaps for the in depth answer!
Sorry, yeah it is all going to be standard def (we are not really using HD much in New Zealand yet, but getting close), but the temptation won’t be there to zoom slightly as i am going to be shrinking people to have them running around on a computer, i just wanted to make sure that i get the best key while they are still full frame, and the truth about which is the best format, because the studio is pushing XD, possibly because it is their new toy, however i would prefer to stick to what i know and go with digibeta. Thanks again for the answer.

June 1, 2006 at 5:59 am in reply to: Complex colour change (want to avoid rotoscoping if possible)Thanks for having a play pete, that is pretty much the desired effect, this link is an example of how the roto version will look, still needs some edge tweaking(and this is just the first frame of about 250) and i’m going to have to pull some of the red out of the non green areas and skin tones to make it less contrasting.

June 1, 2006 at 5:47 am in reply to: Complex colour change (want to avoid rotoscoping if possible)Hi steve, yeah i tried that too, not really good enough eh, has to be perfect unfortunately.
I have done a roto test and then transfered the animated masks to a green solid with the blending mode turned onto colour, it will work it is just going to take me hours, but such is life. -

June 1, 2006 at 12:09 am in reply to: Complex colour change (want to avoid rotoscoping if possible)Yeah we have the completed version, the original was done by another post house (best in country) and has various ratios of keyed footage, studio setup and 3d modelling, i dont think that the client wants to go back to the other facility due to the high cost of getting them to make the changes even though they have all the original footage and models no doubt, and i quite like the challenge and i am sure my bosses like the $$$ so we won’t be recommending that to them obviously.
The wall has always been red, it was just the talent that was keyed over the footage/models.
Unfortunately it is looking more and more like i am going to have to use a complex series of masks to rotoscope it to change out the colour, just wanted to avoid this due to amount of work i already have on, but oh well, s*%t happens 😉Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

June 1, 2006 at 12:01 am in reply to: Complex colour change (want to avoid rotoscoping if possible)Change colour to is nowhere near good enough for what i am trying to do, due to the tones of the skin being way to close to that of the wall unfortunately

May 31, 2006 at 4:51 am in reply to: Complex colour change (want to avoid rotoscoping if possible)Excuse my ignorance… Primatte? Is this a plugin?
Ha yeah unfortunately I think that roto will be the best solution too and yeah green(which incidently is the opposite colour of red) is the worst case scenario especially with the skin tones!!
The main problem is achieving the motion blur in my masking – damn low shutter speed.
And the client is most definately going to be charged by the hour on this one, the main problem is finding the hours to do it in my already hectic schedule… oh well.Any more advice is much appreciated!
Thanks guys

Yeah in my experience green keys better than blue from a DV codec.
And as mentioned there is less green in peoples clothing generally, and i find that darker colours and black get a bit more noisy when doing a blue key.
Good luck -
You can also animate the keylight(use without pulling a key) “source crop” from any edge to achieve the same effect, but the petes plugin is free anyhow.

I have printed that for future reference as well.
You mentioned a forthcoming version of the plugin… will this have fixed the problem where the bottom half of frame disappears upon rendering as mentioned here:https://support.thefoundry.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Report;action=display;num=1145631913
It is also mentioned somewhere in this forum
Thanks
