The clip is currently interlaced. I’d like it to be progressive. Every time I turn on frame controls to export a progressive version, the alpha channel is lost.

Thanks, Shane. Unfortunately, I can’t just replace the transition with a different transition, as I’m in the process of re-editing an old prodction and I don’t have the option of buying new footage or transitions.

Okay, this seemed to work, but only if I have frame controls turned off. If I turn them on, say good by to the alpha channel. Unfortunately, with the frame controls turned off, the final file, once imported, comes along with all these nasty interlacing lines. I can’t use it like that. Any other suggestions I could try?

It’s a DV tape that’s fairly old, transferred from 35mm long ago for purposes I’m not quite sure. It’s all I’ve got to work with at the moment, though, yeah, in an ideal world, I’d love to go back and have the stuff retransferred at HD quality. For now, though, I’m kinda stuck working with the DVcam tapes.

Is there any sort of pulldown I should be doing to get it back to 24fps (as I assume the original film was) or should I just run it through compressor after?

So we’re saying definitely convert the 29.97 stuff to 23.98 then? What about for future uses of this stuff (say, heavens forbid, someone wants to put it onto a DVD or screen it somewhere outside of the client’s laptop)?

Going to the web with this stuff, though we’re intending that it might one day make its way onto a DVD or something else (clients have high hopes someone might be interested in using it on TV someday). Thoughts?

Thanks, Shane. As it actually turns out, I have as much 29.97 footage as I have 23.98 footage and most of the 23.98 stuff is just talking heads/not a lot of action in them. Is there a reason I shouldn’t (beyond preference) convert the 23.98 to 29.97? It seems like I could go either way…

Thanks, Shane. Followup: if i’m going to convert the 29.97 stuff to 23.98, should I select the option to set the duration 100% of the source file or “so source frames play at 23.98”?
