35mm transfer to DVcam…capture settings?
I’ve been handed a DVCam tape of a 35mm film transfer. I have no idea what to capture it at. Is there a suggest setting I should do this at or is the only setting what I suspect it is (DV NTSC)?

Is there any sort of pulldown I should be doing to get it back to 24fps (as I assume the original film was) or should I just run it through compressor after?

Use Cinema Tools after you capture to do the pulldown. You’ll have to test the 4 options provided to see what works best.
35mm to DV…that’s a HUGE quality loss. Plan on onlining this in HD in the future? HOW? Do you have an ALE or FLEX file that goes with this tape? Is it a dub of an HD tape? Or is DV the final (shudder) destination?

It’s a DV tape that’s fairly old, transferred from 35mm long ago for purposes I’m not quite sure. It’s all I’ve got to work with at the moment, though, yeah, in an ideal world, I’d love to go back and have the stuff retransferred at HD quality. For now, though, I’m kinda stuck working with the DVcam tapes.
