Framerate question (29.97 to 23.98)
I know that this issue has been covered ad nauseum on the site, but I’ve swam through so much of it at this point that I’m exactly that: nauseous.
Here’s my issue. I’ve got a lot of 23.98 footage (shot on a Canon 5D and converted into ProRes 422 at 1920×1080). This is the bulk of my material and so I’m trying to keep it as pristine as possible. I’ve also got a lot of footage from various sources that runs at 29.97. This stuff is like home videos ripped from DVDs and pulled from consumer cameras and off various places along the way. I’d like to integrate these as seamlessly as possible while keeping the footage I shot looking as good as it can.
What’s the best practice for doing this kind of thing? I gather that it’s not really wise to simply drop the 29.97 footage into a 23.98 timeline, but I’m loathe to lose my 23.98 footage to a 29.97 timeline. Any thoughts?
(I also have some footage that’s been at 59.97, but I suppose that’s a question for a followup.)
