Thanks everyone for your support!!! Based on the feedback I have here and directly from AJA, I’m thinking that it’s the eSATA card I have is not fast enough for HD. I’ve got it on a x4 slot slot, but System Profiler is saying it’s maxed out at x1. The eSata card is a Sonnet E2P (I believe, it’s been a long time since I bought it). Typically, I only need two drives connected (rarely ever RAID’ed because each project is small enough to have it’s own 1.5 TB drive) at once. However, my main client is moving towards shooting everything in HD. I’ve got to get this external monitor situation solved so any help would be terrific!

I’m not sure if you need this info, but I do not do much system capture or ingest. Nor do I do final layback to tape. I get drives with the material already captured and send back a drive with the mastering materials on it.

Ah, I see. I think that explains why I must have had the card in the 4th slot before hand. Thanks!

I did contact AJA via email per their website. I look forward to hearing from them. Thanks!

OK, so I changed the LHe to the 3rd slot, and I’m still getting bad playback. I also noticed, that there’s no configuration to get maximum speed with the LHe in the third slot. I’ve attached a photo to show you what I mean.

So my LHe was in slot 4 for some reason. (I don’t remember why I had it in that slot). Anyway, I changed it to slot 2, but I’m still getting the same issue. I’ll email you at AJA, and enclosed small screen captures of my settings.

Maybe one of us needs to email Steve about his company’s apparent lack of interest in pro-apps/machines…. See if we can get one of his cryptic emails, consisting of one sentence that could mean anything….

Yeah, I didn’t really expect Blu-ray drives to ship in the new Mac Pro’s. With Apple’s stance on BD, if other people are offering burners why should Apple bother? What I would like to see is both the OS and Final Cut Studio to be able to do more than just “share” BD. I’d like to be able to check my Blu-ray burned discs on my Mac Pro not just the PS3.

Not having USB 3.0 was a bit strange, but I guess they might be waiting until there are LOTS more USB 3 peripherals? Who knows? This is Apple we’re talking about and their motives are about as easy to guess as traveling at light speed without a Warp Drive Engine.
