    Thanks for this, Adam. Unfortunately, I’m not getting the results I need. There are a few issues I’m having with the spline deformer. Mainly that the spline’s shape is causing trenches to form in the DEM mesh.

    But I think the bigger issue is this: I only want to deform the DEM mesh where there is a point above it to pull it. If you think of a mess of points floating above a landscape, I just want to pull the underlying landscape up to those points with some falloff.

    I’m guessing there’s something out there that already does this. I was imagining an expression where I could convert the points to nulls and have them draw the lower mesh towards them as though I’d pulled them with a magnet.

    If not, I’d be happy to pay someone to create this.

    Are you trying to match the Dosch Model to the DEM? Or just map the textures onto the DEM model?

    As for the DEM, I would check the vertical scale. The last DEM I downloaded (from the Raster Roam website) had a vertical scale that was much to high. I fixed this by changing the DEM’s y scale to .1

    That’s very kind Adam. At the moment, I’ve just got loads of points created from a spreadsheet of x and z coordinates. I’ll add the y coords later. I imported the coords via the ascii import in the structure menu. So I can output the point cloud from C4D as any format of model or I can just pass on the spreadsheet.

    Since this is a paid job, I’d be happy to pay you a fee for this.

  • I was really hoping someone would answer this as I’m about to do a similar thing. I was planing to capture directly to uncompressed SD (not sure whether to use 8 or 10 bit.) I don’t have the HDV deck, but I understand it live downconverts to SD. I also understand it has component outputs, but I don’t know if these are SD (can’t be hd can they?)

    I’ll try making a new post and see if anyone bites.

  • One thing caught my eye, Bjorn – merged subclips. I think anytime you have a clip referencing media from other clips, things are going to slow down a little. But I’m pleased to hear you’ve found a workaround.

    I think this is something worth presenting to Apple. Anyone got a minute to write to feedback? I’d do it, but I think I’ve used all my favours!

  • I think you’ll find this issue has been creeping up alot. Search for a thread about “Sticky Timeline” about two months ago. There are some workarounds, but no real solutions. I had originally thought it was a firewire issue, but I have heard of people having the same trouble on robust RAIDs. The only thing in common seems to be large projects – and yours would definately be considered large.

    There’s a big difference between something like a Mojo and an Io or even the Blackmagic multibridge, and it’s essential to the difference between Avid and FCP. Mojo is an accelerator, the others aren’t. Ever since FCP 4, Apple has made it clear that it wants to keep harware acceleration inside the computer. It can do this, of course, because Apple makes computers. They’ll never have to worry that a platform will change in such a way as to conflict with their software.

    Those of us who remember the PCI Apple Avids like the Power PC 9600 (I think, it’s been a while,) remember the conundrum Avid faced with the coming of the Apple G3: not enough PCI slots. Avid eventually found a way around this, but in the meantime, bought every remaining 9600 and ported the software to Windows. So you can see how devices like Mojo and Adrenaline come about. They’ve got no idea what the hardware people are going to do, so they come up with their own and it’s got to be outside the computer.

    Understanding this, you can see how our business may change in the years to come. Avid will have to develop proprietary hardware at great expense, that may or may not work. Meanwhile, Apple can exploit its total control of hardware and software. Kind of makes you feel sorry for Avid – well just a little.
