Actually the -6db standard has been out the window for some time in the music industry … CD’s are normalized to -.01 in most cases … I hardlimit to -1db for my TV show and it seems to work out very well … You can also highligh just the peak, do a minus amplification and then you can hardlimit … When hard limiting with a 0db gain you don’t take full advantage of what hard limiting can do, (limiting the peaks and amplifying the stuff burried in the muck amd mire) … I once shot a wedding for a relative and it took me a year just to be able to sit down and do the editing … I swore I would never do another one and last week I actually volunteered myself to edit footage from a friends wedding … I commend anyone who can shoot and edit weddings on a regular basis ………. OK, on the page that list your PLAYBACK DEVICES there are 2 areas that list devices and a space in between, in that space you will see USE, REMOVE, and at the bottom USE IN EV, click on the USE IN EV
-
Go to OPTIONS > DEVICE ORDER when the page comes up it should have your sound cards listed, highlight the one you want to use and in the middle of the page towards the bottom click on USE IN EV …. WILLIE

Sorry but there isn’t any way I know of using Audition that will remove the the echo from your clip … I see this alot and have tried over and over again to come up with a way of removing it … Here is what you are up against … You have a sound that spans all the frequencies of the audio in the clip so there isn’t any way to clean it up without affecting the audio in a very negative way … I wish I had better news ……… WILLIE

I will listen to your clip when I get home tonight, but I really don’t think there is much that can be done and keep the integraty of the clip ……….. WILLIE

Gary,
I might suggest that instead of using the “Capture Profile” highlight a section with JUST THE NOISE nothing else this way the feature knows exactly what it is looking for, hit OK … Now highlight the entire wave reopen the feature, (it will remember the last setting) and repeat … You will have to play with the percentage but this is a much better way to do noise removal … Be care4ful not to go too far too fast but it has been my exsperience that in most cases you can use a setting of 60 to 90% and only have to do it once … WILLIE

Glad we could be of service … Again I would suggest you play with the hard limit it will fatten things up a bunch ……….. WILLIE

There is no absolut right way to set attack and release … Attack and release controls operate together so to get the proper setting you need to experiment with the settings … The more sound you have the longer the look ahead time I like to use … I would use 12 to 15ms … Attack is how long it takes the compressor to start compressing … Release is when the compressor closes down … I hope this helps ….. It is a limiter try adjusting you settings … The other thing you may want to experiment with is the hard liming feature instead of the filter you are currently using ………. WILLIE
