It is a little disappointing that no one from Blackmagic can make any suggestion as to why a professional piece of equipment is unable to capture reliably from VHS tape. What started as a simple job has become time consuming, irritating and expensive due to the problem with my Extreme card.
I did also try to capture via Blackmagic Deck control but having set ‘uncontrolled device’ in preferences it kept telling me it could not control the deck and would not capture at all.
I am aware this is not an official Blackmagic forum but they do have a presence here and therefore should not seem to be selective about what issues they comment on.
When I upgrade my G5 sometime in the future, it is unlikely at the moment it will have a Blackmagic card fitted.

Just realised I’m not the only one with this problem, should have done a search using ‘VHS’ rather than ‘composite’

September 20, 2006 at 3:32 pm in reply to: Timecode breaks where there are none? Problems with FCP or Cameras or Decks?Again similar problem here, capturing via Blackmagic Extreme card from a DSR 85 Deck with 422 control I had a number of timecode breaks in different places. I had to use “on timecode break” in the end. I suspect FCP loses contact with the deck for for a split second and senses that as a timecode break.

This is not a new problem, if you do a search you will find it was an issue with a number of people last year. I had a 3 frame differance between video and audio when monitoring video via component. I now monitor via composite and the problem seems to have gone away.

Thank you for for your very prompt and helpful reply. Impressive.
I assume you have been left in the office and not allowed experience the delights of Amsterdam :)))

I too am interested in the Kona LS. I have a Decklink Extreme but am having some issues with component output and the lack of YC I/O. I know the LS can be configured for YC I/O but having BNC connectors what type of cabling would allow it to be connected to a SVHS deck or monitor for example. (with 4/6 pin SVHS connectors). Would the B/O box make this an easier task.

My problem was due to how I had configured my system. In order to feed a SVHS deck and SVHS monitor I was coming from the decklink in component to my DSR 85 and then taking SVHS from there. I was very close to taking my system back to my Dealer for a rebuild.
So just before I did that I connected my monitor to the composite output from decklink, problem gone, my video and audio were in sync. However I am left with an inferior connection to my monitor and no SVHS connection. Audio has remained the same, from the decklink to a Mackie mixer and then to some Tannoy’s
I assumed it was my setup was causing the problem, but could it be the component output from decklink ?

Many thanks for the info.
Surprising AJA do not seem to be so well represented in the UK but Blackmagic are. -

June 23, 2005 at 4:15 pm in reply to: Blackmagic DV setting causing crash with Decklink ExtremeI have had this problem for a week or so and it has caused me some trouble to say the least. I downloaded the driver and everything seems OK so far.
Would it not have been possible to have highlighted the problem considering you knew about it, a lot of forum searching and re-installing may have been prevented. That’s not a critisism but really a question on how issues such as this are communicated to users. Without the presence of forums such as creative cow we would be in big trouble.
