  • I’ve never had an issue outputting a 1080i QTref from a MC mixdown and encoding that to an mp4 1080p using Adobe Media Encoder. Being so long ago since I used Squeeze though I can’t recall an issue using that as well.

How are you presenting this anyway? From a DVD? Blu-Ray? A mp4 file to be played from a laptop etc?

If a playable DVD you’re basically stuck with 720×480 to stay within DVD spec, but set a 16×9 flag so it displays properly. Set the video bit rate at 8000 kbs, audio at 192 kbps.

If Blu-Ray, set video bit rate to 25000 kbs. If mp4/h.264 file from a computer’s hard drive, set the video bit rate from 8000-10000 kbs.

What reason are you so concerned with the file size? What encoder are you using? This doesn’t have to be complicated.

the bit rate basically determines file size. For 1 hr you probably had it set for 50+ Mbit bit rate or something close. I haven’t used Avid to export anything other than QT Ref files and prefer to use AME, Rhoset or Sorenson for encoding purposes. Lower the bit rate considerably (like 8 Mbit or so) and it should still look more than presentable.

  • It’s been quite a while but from what I recall…

Select all clips in your bin. Go into Script view. Hit the 2 key (to go 10 frames forward and NOT on the number pad) enough times to get you the handle length you need. Mark IN. For 6 secs hit the 2 key 18 times to get your 6 secs each. Mark OUT. I think you can take it from there 🙂

  • btw… I believe the bin is case sensitive, Quick Transitions, if all lower case I don’t think it will work as intended

Btw, unless you have the “smart tool” active there’s no need to move the mouse any particular spot to move around the timeline. The first thing I did was shut off the smart tool. I’m on 5.53, so if things have changed, I apologize 🙂

Not necessarily. Most likely it means your monitor’s component connection is only 480p. Use some software like MediaInfo to check and confirm the BD’s attributes.

I’m going to ask the obvious since you mentioned you also tried to play a BD disc in a DVD player. How is your BD player connected to your monitor/tv?

It would be fabulous if you could stick to your original thread on this you started 3 days prior instead of starting a new one for the same issue.
