Stumbled across this while looking for the answer to a different question, and thought I’d take time to reply, even though OP probably won’t still be looking for the answer four years later. Anyway, my guess is that you’re using the shortcut CMD+R to render, which renders only audio and video. What you need to do to render the proxy is hit OPTION+R or go Sequence>Render All>Both.

Alternatively, you can exclude objects from sketch and toon under its options in the >render >settings tab. This wont get the cell shaded reflections you’re looking for, but I thought this might be helpful to others who stumble onto the thread.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for their suggestions and assistance. We ended up coming up with a viable solution integrating MAX/MSP’s jitter into our workflow, and everything went off without a hitch.
