    Hi all,

I’m sure there’s some simple fix for this, but I’m lost.

I set a bunch of clips to go through Compressor.
Didn’t work – probably too many. (Got the dreaded 3x crash message.)

Tried to pause the batch, tried to cancel the batch.
    NOTHING stops this batch.
Is there some kind of “Force Quit” for such a thing?

    Thanks!
    Kim

Really always the last thing you try, isn’t it? 🙂

Unfortunately, I now seem to be getting that “3x” error on every single clip I submit in Compressor. I’ve tried shutting down all drives and applications, restarting the computer, using a droplet, nothing. It looks like this is a pretty common problem, but one without an agreed-upon answer. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Google “Compressor Repair” from Digital Heaven., https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
otherwise remove and re-install Compressor and up-date to current version.

    Cheers

Open Compressor and delete everything in the “History Window’.
    Relaunch Compressor and try again.

You have to first realize that Compressor is simply a GUI controller for Apple Qmaster (the ACTUAL transcoding processor). You can start a batch of transcoding and close Compressor and/or Batch monitor and it will still continue to process. You can even restart your Mac and it will try to pick up where it left off.

The ONLY way that I have found to cancel these “un-cancel-able” batches is to open system prefs and go to the Qmaster pref pane. Within that window, there is a button that says “stop sharing”. Clicking this will cancel any batches that are currently transcoding, and restart your Qmaster services.

***COW leaders, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this!!! 🙂

It’s usually easier than all that. Launch Compressor and go here:

Choose that and then choose Reset and Cancel Jobs. Quit Compressor, wait a minute, then try your job again. Clears up 99% of my Compressor hangups…

    Michael,

Created an account just to say thanks for the advice. Your guidance salvaged what was quickly becoming a very frustrating morning.

    Thanks man,

Thought I would stop by and contribute my experience and my ultimate bizarre-yet-simple solution to this maddening problem.

First, I could not get Michael’s solution to work, since the Qmaster preference pane refuses to launch. I just get stuck in a perpetual loop and it tells me “To use Apple Qmaster preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen.” Upon clicking ok, it closes. On manually reopening, it just pops up the same alert. Repeat. Now I have to hit cancel to get out of this mind-numbing loop. Yes, I’ve tried opening system prefs in 32-bit mode. Nada.

Also, Mark’s solution didn’t work – while the the batch DID stop, it sat and thought for about 10 seconds, then just started over. Nice. So, here’s the answer:

Follow Mark’s advice and go to Compressor -> Reset Background Processing -> Reset and Cancel Jobs. THEN, when you see it pause in the History panel, immediately hit the “Clear” button at the bottom. Now it will disappear and never bother you again! If you aren’t quick enough, it will restart, and you’ll have to repeat the steps in this paragraph.

Hope this helps someone – this problem made me crazy!
