Are u sure that you have checked the port that its working with a pair of headphones ?
I know its a dumb question but just asking. A mate of mine had a similar issue, but the little speaker was damaged, the actual plug that plugs into the cam ! The port was fine ??

Well , I dont even have to read any further to tell you that you should never try and fix in POST what can be done right from the onset with the cam. I do sport shows for TX and take an average of 6 white balances as the day progresses. I like setting my presets to 5300 and 4300 respectively in the studio with a control chart. This ensures that I have two settings to switch especially on those cloudy days where the sun peeks out behind the clouds every now and then. I shoot lots of watersport which makes the whitebalance even more crtical. NEVER try to correct in post unless its ABSOLUTELY the only way.
The JVC has Excellent depth of field on the standard lens. I always try and shoot at 50 shutter and aim for a fstop of 11 – 8. If I need the depth I set the fstop to what I want and adjust the shutter to get it close to damm on the exposure.
If you can learn to stay away from auto as most cameramen rely on it with Z1 et all !!! You will become a better cameraman. Manual is the way to go. No serious lensman will EVER use auto. Its a quick setup gauge.. Thats It

Hi Jay
If I may ask what do you want to shoot – I have HDY 101’s and have the fujinon adaptor rings that I purchased. It allows you to go from a 1/3 inch (standard lens )to a half inch lens.
I then got myself 2 old Fujinon Pegasus 2 lenses with doublers on.
The good thing is that using the fujinon lens converter – it gives you a x 1.8 just by fitting the doubler. So your std 14 x goes to about a 25 optical… Then add the doubler on the lens and you go to a 50 x
I shoot lots of sport action and wildlife and it works for me.
The Pegasus 2 lenses are fairly cheap. They came std with the Sony BETASP cams pre 1999. Rocksolid, Cheap and easy to get yr hands on
Try and stay away from converters that screw onto the front of your lens. Filters are great but converters tend to distort the images especially on the edges. Shooting in 16:9 its no good
Hope it helps

September 26, 2010 at 4:30 am in reply to: JVC GY-HD101E 720 24p Capture in FCP 6.0.4 (Or any GY-HD10x version)Hi Nick
I use the HDY 101 extensively for broadcast work. I like to use the Prorez Codec when capturing. It does not give the long breaks when doing log and capture. HOWEVER it does not give you scene breaks.
It workd for me as I do not require scene breaks and tend to scan through all my footage once captured… If you have troubles try mailing me direct digitalemotion@sainet.co.za

September 13, 2010 at 4:42 am in reply to: JVC GY-HD110E causes drop outs when capturing HDV from tape to NLE.Hi Seamus
Ok I had the same issue and youre right its not tape or head related. I initially thought is was. Does the drop out appear in small squares at random in the timeline ? It would look as if someone took a shotgun to the footage and it would be in burst at random. But look at the footage on the tape, Its all A OK ?
For me it was a hardware failure on my G5dual. Got the video card sorted and that solved it. BTW, what NLE do you use ?

Have to agree with Mark on this one. I dont even own an a camera that does autofocus. WHy ? For the exact reason you mentioned. I have 2 x GDY 101’s and dont even use the LCD screens. Viewfinder only. If you know how to pull the focus on a good Fujinon you will never go back.
I can tell you that a year ago a mate of mine got a Canon XHa1 and he had the same problem you have with the JVC. He shot weddings and kept complaining that the camera would hunt for focus. I used to own a P2 and that had numerous autofocus issues. You would do an interview with a left to right configuration and the person you would be interviewing would be “soft” while the background was in focus.
You should be able to set the autofocus zone. Centered or scattered ?
On the Canon you can ? That should help ? -
Hi Wayne
Well I have 2 GDY101’s and have been working very successfully with them for the past 3 years in broadcast. I use Panasonic PQ tapes and the Fuji Mx Pro series. I believe the HDV tapes are very good, but after chatting to one of the technical guys at JVC, he recommended that in ALL cases to stay away from tapes that have a very high oxide redidue. In must cases these were the Red and Black Sony DV’s and in general the cheaper line of tapes. They leave a huge amount of residue on the feeder mechanism and heads. Where as the more expensive ones are supposed to have the least amount of oxide ?
I can truely recommend both the tapes I use, NEVER had drop out on either cams. The one Cam has done just on 300hrs and the other 523hrs
Hope it heps

Need a bit more info, what are you shooting ? What is lighting condition like ? What is your iris set to ??

Hey there
This is pretty weird, I had a similar situation with an SDHC on a normal Nikon. I replaced the card and that solved the issue. It might just be card related.
Did you have the problem before you got the new cards to shoot the conference. Was it only the new cards that had the problems.
If I may ask, what brand were they ?
