Hi and thanks for the replies!

Tom – the camera needs to be captured via log and transfer because it uses the AVCHD codec. I am plugging the memory stick pro card into a USB card reader in order to transfer the footage into FCP. The camera was shot using the ‘FQ’ setting, which is AVCHD full 1920X1080i. The only presets that I can select in FCP is ProRes422 or Apple Intermediate Codec. I have tried both.

Arnie – I have sent previous test footage to the post-production fellow, and he came back with the same complaints. I imagine, but haven’t checked, that he’s viewed it on the appropriate monitor. Do you think, though, that he might not have, and that for me to view it correctly, I either need a professional monitor or to deinterlace the footage?

I am not sure what frame rate the camera records with – there are no appropriate settings on the camera – you can only select the quality of the video. I have tried importing it onto a windows machine using the sony software, but the machine is too old and slow to run the video at normal speed, and I can’t get any fps info from it anywhere.

i still haven’t found a solution anywhere! It’s killing me!

    Hi Ty,

Thanks for your info. I think that, all things considered, wired lapel mics will be the way to go for me. they’re cheaper too, and I think a 3m+ lead will be long enough for me.

I’ve seen on a website a flute microphone with a 7m lead. It is an Audix ADX10. I like the look of it, and am thinking i’ll buy it a tie clip and give it a try with voice. its a cardioid lapel with an okay frequency response. I’d like to know if anyone has any experience using microphones specifically designed for woodwind or other musical instruments for people? what could I expect?

Okay I apologise for my simple questions. I am still fairly new to this, and i think i should always post in the ‘basics’ topic!

Thanks to steve and David for putting up with me patiently!

damn that was so freakin’ simple!

Thanks so much for the ultra-speedy reply!

    regards,
    will

actually, a second question: is there a way to create effects? Say i want an effect that is simply a slider bar and nothing more, to use in expressions in conjunction with other effects. How do I go about doing that?

Depending on what mood or look you want, you could also try to throw some interesting lighting onto the walls. Or combine this with Dave’s suggestion and highlight the pictures/rug/whatever with lights…

    Thanks for the reply, Dave.

Hmmm. Well I’m not sure how to go about doing that. Could you give me some direction, please?

I did also discover that when I apply one of Andrew’s ‘Cinema Styles’ looks from his Film Magic Pro bundle, an effect named ‘Color’ pops up out of nowhere. It looks like the ‘Curves’ effect renamed.

Why does it work for those presets but not for the Evolution?! Gah!
