    Hi!

I was wondering how to rename an effect in After Effects – is it as simple as duplicating the effect and calling it something else? or is there an easier, less ‘brute force’ way to do it?

I am trying to create my own presets that have custom names, to make it easier for me to re-use later on.

    Many Thanks!

You can save presets and name them in the saving.

Or if you want to name an effect in the effect window (F3) just hit return (if I recall) to highlight the effect name, and rename it. Then you can save the preset.

actually, a second question: is there a way to create effects? Say i want an effect that is simply a slider bar and nothing more, to use in expressions in conjunction with other effects. How do I go about doing that?

Have you tried Effect>Expression Controls>Slider Control?

Okay I apologise for my simple questions. I am still fairly new to this, and i think i should always post in the ‘basics’ topic!

Thanks to steve and David for putting up with me patiently!
