Thanks Dave, that’s an excellent reference. However although he covers error codes 0 through 90, error number 51 isn’t included.

Anyone else know a way around this?

We do not own any HD decks and would like to remain a tapeless HD facility unless the camera we choose dictates otherwise. All of the video we create is posted through Final Cut or After Effects CS3.

Everytime a read a post on this issue I get a bit more confused; I guess the DVCPRO HD section of my brain is a bit under-developed…

One user suggested interpreting the source footage PAR as “DVCPRO HD”, but set the composition PAR to “Square”. It seems to work, but is this a good idea?

Thanks. Do you mean professional help in using the Digital Rapids system or professional help for the compression itself?

We’ll only need the DR Stream to convert uncompressed quicktimes into Flash 8 flv files (for the time being). Used properly how does its output quality compare to Squeeze?

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been asked by our Flash Dev guys to keep the bitrate below 300 kB/sec, so I will experiment with using higher rates.

I’m sorry I confused the issue of YUV to RGB. I think I read once that YUV compresses better than RGB, so I wondered if I made the conversion within After Effects if it would make a difference.

The consensus here seems to be that Squeeze is considered a professional application, but please let me know if this is not so. We’re looking for the best possible compression solutions (hardware or software) regarless of cost.

    You’re right on all counts:

    1) I was not aware of the PAR switch
    2) It did indeed look “funny” after rotating 90 degrees; I jumped the gun on my follow-up post.

    I figured it out…

The source footage was shot vertically (rotated 90 degrees); once I rotated it everything was cool. Seems odd but whatever…

Thanks everyone for your advice, especially the tips on RAM utilization (I didn’t know XP on the Mac was still limited to 3GB), the 8 core processors issue and the video card. I can use the savings to invest in storage!
