Jon, thanks for responding so quickly. My drives appear to be okay, with 300 to 400 GB available on each. I tried to let the conforming finish, but it seems to hang up on a certain video file and not go any further. In other words, there is no progress at all, after a certain point, on the conforming of that particular file. The heck of it is, I only need about 10 seconds of video rendered to complete the timeline render!

As I mentioned previously I can’t ‘export’ to video, because it also hangs up and won’t transfer. I never ran into this problem before.

Your other idea intrigues me…about importing the project into a new project. Specifically, how does one go about doing this? Do you just ‘copy’ the timeline and paste into a new project? I think I tried this method once and it didn’t work.

Just so you know, what I’m trying to do (and I’ve used every method possible to rescue the project to this point) is export 6 seperate projects to a folder, then open the contents of that folder in Encore and import the 6 video files to create 6 chapters. All I need to do is get this one remaining video project into the folder.

Thanks for the insight David. You gave some sound advice and I apreciate it. I’m wondering if the 500 GB external drive, that’s given me all this trouble, is just too full for Windows swap files, boot roecords etc to do their job. I have no way of seeing if any files exist, because the recovery programs don’t seem to recognize it. Consequently, I can’t move any other files from the drive. So, I’m between the devil and the deep blue sea…or, more likely in The Twilight Zone!

At any rate, earlier today I finally finished my marathon weekend and re-capatured approximately 29 hours of video. A few AVI’s, on another external drive, survived.

Regarding using a USB external drive for editing, I agree totally. Unfortunately, that’s all I had to work with when I began this project 6 months ago (my other drives were tied up with other projects.) In fact, I jsut installed an ‘internal’ 1 terabyte harddrive a couple of weeks ago and THIS time I ‘re-captured’ all the AVIs to it. So far, the project recognizes about 95 percent of the AVI’s. Now I’m rebuilding the other 5 per cent.

I’m glad do know about the Lacie’s 4Big Quadro, because after this fiasco I’m going get something more stable!

Thanks for the quick response Vince. Much appreciated. I hadn’t thought about ‘corrupted boot records’. I was hoping the recovery software I purchased would have taken care of a problem like that, but I’ll give EZRecovery a try and see what happens. I may eventually take the drive out of its external case and give it an internal try.

Actually thinking back, prior to purchasing the recovery software, I downloaded a trial of HDD Regenerator. I didn’t let it test the entire drive, because it was extremely slow, but it did return an immediate message saying ‘8 delays were detected’. I’m not sure if that means anything.

Very perplexing.

Again, thanks Jon. Since I am realtively new to Encore, which I find to be a rather complicated program, it would be a great boon to me if you could be a bit more explicit in your explanation (the exact steps to take etc.) The menu I have designed is very simple. It has a moving background with 5 chapters, with each chapter opening a 5 to 10 minute video. There are no sub-menus, just the one page. And, as mentioned before, I want the 6th chapter to open the clients website.

Thanks for responding Jon. It looks like i’ve got a ‘sticky-wicket’ here, because in each of the video chapters on the DVD we say ‘just click the icon to got to the clients website’. If not from a chapter point is there ANY other way that the viewer can access the website from the DVD?

I have been experiencing the same thing, except my audio is out-of- sync from the start. I capture with Premiere. I must re-sync the audio on the time-line, usually 5 audio frames to the left of video. Then, just before going to Encore (after saving the edited file to a new sequence)to make a DVD, I have to adjust the audio back to normal then advance 5 frames (indented)to the right of video. This is the ONLY way I can maintain sync. Very frustrating and time consuming as well, but it seems to be the only workaround I can figure out.

Regarding the poping…I too get pops and sometimes a crackle sound on certain soundbites. I solve this problem by going to Audio Effects – Stereo & select De-crackle. Apply to clip & open in Effect Controls. Under Individual Parameters I select Threshold and adjust the slide to about 35%. De-clicker is another option to try. In most cases the ‘snap, crackle and pop’ seems to disappear.

Soundbooth has a ‘pop’ tool as well, but the above method is much faster and doesn’t seem to effect the quality of the audio.
