    [John Rofrano]

I understand that Windows 10 Home doesn’t allow you to turn off updates while Window 10 Pro does.

Apparently, there are several ways. This article explains how to disable automatic updates in Windows 10 Home.

I haven’t upgraded to Windows 10 and haven’t tried it. This link was originally posted in a thread on the Vegas Pro forum.

IMHO, here’s one of the best royalty-free music sites. https://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/

    [Brett Cole]

My system is similar to yours. Mastering works plugins show up in Sound Forge, but not Vegas. I suspect the problem is one of licensing. As I recall, the Mastering Works plugins were part of SF10 at the time of purchase, whereas Nectar Elements was part of the Vegas upgrade package. Similar to Bob, I usually render a copy of the audio event which opens in Sound Forge (Open Copy in Sound Forge), do my effects processing and then save it back as a Take inside of Vegas. If I want to make subsequent changes, simply Ctrl-E (Open in Sound Forge).

    Don,

You have given zero information that would enable anyone to help you, other than your moving text is not smoothly. That could be caused by a host of reasons. At a minimum, you need to provide project settings–frame size, frame rate, etc. Render settings–codec, frame size, frame rate, etc. And finally, how do you know this? Preview? Rendered file? Posting a YT video of your “problem” would be extremely useful, as well as screen shots of your project and render settings. There’s a good chance that you are simply animating your text too quickly for the frame rate you’ve selected so that there is judder. However, until you provide more information, don’t expect a lot of answers, except guesses.

The nice thing about it is that it works both ways. For example, if you’ve defined a bunch of markers or regions and don’t want to enter the names individually, you can simply paste these into the name column regardless of their source–excel, notepad, word, etc., which can be a real time-saver.

August 27, 2015 at 10:02 pm in reply to: How to crop something then make it smaller?

If I understand what you want to do, the easiest thing is to first crop your chat box. Just make sure in the Pan/Crop Window that under Source, the Stretch to Fill Frame is set to NO. In this way, the area around the crop remains black and the image is not expanded. I suspect that you have it set to YES which is why the image is “massive” in your words. Once you have it cropped, then use Track Motion to further resize and move your cropped image to wherever you want–for example, to the lower right.

  • Like I said in the second post of this thread, the inability to render 1080 60P using QSV is a Vegas problem. You can render 720 but not 1080. There is a thread on the Vegas Pro forum where Sony has acknowledged the problem and indicated it would be fixed in a future update. You can easily render QSV for 1080 60P using Handbrake or TMPGEnc’s Mastering Works, just not Vegas. In a similar manner, Vegas will render Mainconcept MPEG-2 1080 at 60i, but not at 60P.

Any tips on cleaning it up in Vegas?

Vegas will be of limited value except for the final render. The primary tool used by most individuals who are serious about 8mm restoration is avisynth (referenced in your link). The set of scripts by Video Fred is probably the most well known and certainly a good starting point. https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144271 Within that thread, there are also scripts by John Meyer which are highly recommended. A lot of his work on filters for video noise reduction can be found on the Vegas Pro forum. A good source of help for restoration is the Restoration subforum on Videohelp. https://forum.videohelp.com/forums/41-Restoration. Use of Avisynth requires frameserving from Vegas using the Debugmode Frameserver and Virtualdub for executing the avisynth scripts and render of an intermediate for import back into Vegas. If you’re not familiar with Avisynth and Virtuldub, they can be a bit daunting at first, but executing the scripts referenced in these threads is pretty straightforward and can yield very good results, as shown by your link. In any case, good luck on your journey.

August 23, 2015 at 7:20 pm in reply to: Rendering WAV produces WDP?

Just want to make sure that you are using the normal Render As dialog and not a script. If so, try “Render to New Track”–Ctrl-M and do a wav render which will add the rendered file as a new track. Just see if you get the same .wdp extension.
