Try this–disable resampling for your event. Right-click event, select switches, and then select “Disable Resample”. This will have Vegas select every 5th frame and not try to calculate an average if “smart resample”, the default, is selected.

Is there I way where I can change my custom template option without going to “Render As”?

Very easy. Once you have created your template, simple assign a name and save.

Then you can use it whenever you like. The next time you load Vegas, that template will also be available as a batch rendering option.

I’m not sure exactly what your problem is or if you even have one. It seems that you have 4 video tracks and 1 audio track. (BTW, if you have 4 audio tracks that are the same, you can simply delete three of them.) You want to keep the audio track, but slice up the video tracks. If that’s the case, I don’t see that you have a problem. If you slice the video track that includes the one remaining audio track, then sure you will get out-of-sync indications. Even so, I don’t see a problem. Regardless, a screenshot of your timeline would be most helpful.

In your render window, remember to scroll down and tick the box that says “Render loop region only”.

First, how do you know its choppy? Vegas preview? Playing rendered file with Windows Media Player? Dedicated media player hooked up to a TV? Playing back a high frame rate video can be very taxing on your computer system. If may actually be fine, but your system may not be playing it very well. System specs would be useful.

Second, what are your project and render settings? Again, screenshots would be the most useful way of providing this info.

Third, you may want to upload a small section of the rendered video. Just select a loop inside Vegas and render just that loop and upload.

Fourth, putting it on Youtube will be problematic. Because its skateboarding, you need a high frame rate to capture the action. Although Youtube now supports high frame rates, the playback may be choppy just because of slow internet connections. For YT, you could reduce the frame rate to 25fps, and see how that looks. If you try that, just remember to Disable Resample for your video events in Vegas.

If I were you, I would check into CS6. The last time I checked, Amazon was still selling CS6. When I got it, I got the smallest package that included Photoshop. It saves paying $10/month forever, and there may be a competitor to Adobe if the time comes when you need something more than CS6.

That must have been some time ago. Just checked. Three are still available $1699, $1799 and $1949. That would take almost 15 years to break even–I’ll be in my mid-80’s if I’m still around. Moreover, Adobe has already announced no further support for CS6 after the most recent release of the their Camera Raw plug-in. I have CS5, so I could always revert back if necessary. Plus, I really like some of their new features–especially in their Content-Aware image processing technology. So for me at least, the cost of the subscription is well worth it–pretty much the same as a good six pack of beer or cheap bottle of wine each month.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or am I just going to have to accept it and tackle any upcoming editing projects that I have with tiny icons?

I presume that you’re talking about tiny icons inside of Vegas once opened, not desktop icons? In a pinch, you could (?) always change your display resolution back to 1920×1080, although that kinda defeats the purpose of getting a laptop with a UHD display. But again, that might be the preferred solution for using VMS until such time that the issue has been resolved. Just an idea.

Sorry, but that still does not rise to the level of “BEWARE”. Come on! Have you ever heard the acronym KIS? I was tempted, but I resisted the second “S”. 😉

Bob, there’s absolutely no need to be insulting over use of the word “beware” on this forum. We all post things that others disagree with–that’s the nature of free interchange. We’ve all posted things that turned out to be absolutely wrong. Enough said.

  • Glad to be of help. The Vegas 2 Handbrake script is really quite brilliant and you’re right about the value of Handbrake for low bit rate encoding. Much better than using the internal Vegas encoders.

    [John Rofrano]

I don’t see any reason for a Windows 7 user to upgrade. Not a single one.

Here’s one reason that tempts me. 192GB memory in V10 vs 16 GB in V7 Home Premium. Running multiple instances of Vegas, Photoshop and other apps oftentimes brings things to a crawl–especially Photoshop. Being able to add another 16 GB RAM is appealing. Hence, the temptation, although as others have warned, its probably best to wait awhile until the end of the free offer period. OTOH, I could just pay the upgrade cost to V7 Pro.

Added: The anywhere upgrade to V7 PRO is no longer available.
