One thing you can do with TSmuxer is first do your render from Vegas so that the output is elementary streams (m2v and mpa). The m2v file and ac3 files can then be loaded into TSmuxer and you can create a m2ts file directly.

Tsmuxer does not work importing m2t files. Tried it with both v1.1 and v2.6. Moreover, there is no export option for m2t files, only .ts or .m2ts files. Did you search the tools section on Videohelp? I’ll try FFMPEG and if that’s successful, I’ll post the necessary command line.

Is there a way to perhaps transcode the audio and leave the video in HDV 720p ?

You’re on the right track. First, do a normal HDV render. Second, do an AC-3 render. And finally, do a remux in which you replace the audio track from the HDV render with the audio track from the AC-3 render. You can use software such as TMPGEnc’s Smart Renderer for remuxing. Or you can probably use FFMPEG. It’s a command line program and a bit more difficult to use, but its freeware. I use FFMPEG all the time for remuxing AAC audio files with MP4 files. You could also search the tools section in Videohelp.com for other software that supports remuxing.

You’re right–I’m using a PC. I didn’t realize that using a MAC was so torturous for something so simple. From what you describe, it’s a real goat rope–I’d be annoyed as well. I guess that’s one advantage of using products that have the dominant market share. Sounds like the main problem is Apple and Quicktime. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

If I want to browse the contents of the card real quick I need to fire up a special program that can read them rather than just quickly previewing the clip in the OS player.

No offense, but your rant is about a problem that doesn’t exist. You do NOT need a special program. You can use whatever media player you like. The key is to know where to look. Very simple–I do this all the time for previewing files directly from the SD card. You just need to navigate to the correct folder. For Sony and Panasonic, it’s all the same. From your SD card, navigate to PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM. There you will find the individual clips that can be played and imported directly.

An advantage of using the manufacturer-supplied software is that it will automatically rename your clips according to date and time shot rather than 1,2,3,4,etc. For Sony at least, it will also combine files that exceed the file size limitations associated with the card being used.

So why can’t I use the effect on the cutted version of the video? Any ideas?

Lots of ways to do this.

You can first apply the effect to the uncut version. If you then do cuts, the effect will remain applied to the cut events.

Or, you can do your cuts editing first. Apply the effect to the first event. Then copy that event (ctr-c). Go to the next event, right click and select all events to the end. Then select Paste Event Attributes. That effect will be applied to all events selected.

Or, if you want to apply that effect to the entire clip, you can apply it as a media FX rather than an event FX. Select the clip in the project media window, right click and select Media FX. Then apply your effect. It will be applied regardless of any cuts on the timeline.

The problem is I have multiple files with the same name, but they contain different video.

This practice is not a good idea. For the future, using a file rename utility, suggest you add an index as a suffix so that each file with the same name has a unique index number. In this way, such problems would be avoided.

Select “Search for missing file” and then select the drive where files are located. It should come up with a list of files matching that name.
