I’d try CF to see if that alleviates the problem. I’ve never had this problem personally. One can never rule out a bad camera. I hope it’s not that.

What speed are your cards and how are they formatted? I’ve never had my camera “record video on this DSLR it will cut up my footage into little sub-ten minute clips.” The stopping at half hour I think is normal and has to do with the EU rules that if it records longer it is no longer a DSLR but a video camera so taxes are higher.
Are you formatted as fat32? (4gig limitation). If so it will break the clip into 4gb clips.

What did you shoot on? Was it a DSLR that shoots 4K h.264/h.265 variety? Was it a professional camera Red or Alexa?
I can’t answer the question if I don’t know that. Otherwise, I can say, can you import the files into Compressor and convert them to ProRes 1080/ whatever the FPS is.
Then you set you the appropriate timeline in FCP7. Don’t let FCP7 try to convert to the timeline or it will either chock or not be able to recognize the RAW files at all.

Yes you can convert to ProRes 1080 or even an SD codec you are comfortable and FCP7 will recognize your files. If you keep everything named the same, you can later relink to the RAW. I’ve done this many times in FCP7 with Red RAW.

Make proxy into ProRes 1080. You won’t be able to edit RAW 4K in FCP7.

Sounds like you don’t have enough contrast for the AF to work. Try setting up a backlight Rim to separate the people from the black background. Unless your intention is to make them blend in, then manual focus is the way to go here.

It all comes down to the look you desire. 23.98 is like shooting for film/cinema it is how features are shot at 24fps. 29.97 is a NTSC frame rate standard for US TV in the SD days– think sports and soap operas.
What look do you want? If you are shooting for the US market and go to Europe, I would probably still shoot at 23.98 not 25 as you would have to do a PAL conversion to NTSC after. I understand you had flicker issues, but if you shoot with tungsten in Europe or even a LED panel you wouldn’t have this issue. You just have to be aware of the lights lighting your scene.
