Just to confirm.. You had Final Cut Pro ‘poofing’ right after opening it? Then you bought that new card and it went away? Also, are you running Tiger or Leopard on the G4?
I just want to triple-confirm that the video card is the solution.

“Yes, FCP would crash and not open. The splash screen would come up and then go away and quit. The second time I’d open it, I wouldn’t get the splash screen, it just quit.
I’m running it now in Leopard but also have a second drive with Tiger 10.4.11 and with the 9800 Pro, FCP works on both system drives. Color even works on the G4, albeit slow.

I had the same problem. I was the one who brought this to Apple’s attention. I eventually bought a 9800 Pro card on eBay and the machine now rocks. Did a show in DVCProHD without a hiccup on a Dual 1.4.2 Ghz G4.

Try breaking your reels down into 22 minute chucks, (22 minutes is the traditional length of a projected film reel).
Make the breaks at logical places–on the cut, after or before a dissolve, etc.

Thanks to Andrew for helping work out the TCR issue. He was able to do what I needed when Apple advanced Tech could not.

Can you contact me off list. I’d like to call you when you have a second and work this out. I cannot get the TCR controls to work on a nested sequence and neither could Apple.

Yes, the only work around is to apply TCR to a single clip and then you are able to manipulate the size and all variables to your liking and then save as a favorite.
You apparently cannot alter the TCR when it is applied to a nested sequence. Apple seems to verify my findings.

Funny, nesting a sequence, (so I don’t have to apply the TC Reader to all the clips individually), I couldn’t resize the TCR– a call to upper level Apple FCP support and they couldn’t either. Only could resize and manipulate the TCR on an individual clip. Weird.
Running FCS 2 FCP 6.0.2 with Tiger 10.4.11

[Jeremy Garchow] “I just spoke with AJA and apparently someone made a mistake. The v5 drivers are definitely Tiger compatible. i am running v5 on tiger on everything seems to be fine.
“This is what tech support told me. They said if you are running Tiger stick to v4. I guess if depends on who you speak with.
