Is the new driver safe?
Posted by Don Wilson on January 25, 2008 at 6:23 amI’ve not installed the V5 drivers as I’m still on Tiger. But there are some issues the new press release mentions that would help me. As well, I’ve read of recent problems with the V5 drivers and wonder if these new and improved ones are safe?
Best to all,
Don Wilson

January 25, 2008 at 4:43 pmI tried installing version 5.0 in Tiger, and it simply did not work form me (FCP crashed at startup). I was told that, in fact, 5.0 is Leopard only, despite AJA’s claim to the contrary. I will wait to here if that’s changed for 5.1 (they still say Tiger compatible). I do like the sound of “improved Edit to tape frame accuracy in all interlaced formats”, although I’ve not run across this issue.

January 25, 2008 at 5:22 pmHere’s the old thread for reference:
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/98/868388But basically, after uninstsalling v 4 drivers, installing v5 drivers, and deleting prefs, Final Cut would crash on startup when it tried to load a Kona setup. Everytime. As you can see in the thread, I was told that it was not actually Tiger compatible. Any ideas?

January 25, 2008 at 5:40 pmAJA told me not to use version 5 with Tiger. They said stick with 4. Use v5 for Leopard.

“This is what tech support told me. They said if you are running Tiger stick to v4. I guess if depends on who you speak with.

January 25, 2008 at 6:32 pmJeremy,
I was using the ver 5 drivers with Tiger too without any issues. Of course now that I’m a bleeding edge user I’m running Leopard, also without issues…
