Try this: Enter your search term. Select the layer you wish from the results. Clear the search. Press the X key to scroll the timeline panel to the selected layer.

Make sure you clear your layer selection first. If you have layers selected, the search box will search within the selection and hide anything that doesn’t match, but it will leave all unselected layers visible.

Perhaps I don’t understand your request, but the comp search box will do exactly that. For example:

    Before search:

    After search:

February 21, 2019 at 10:39 am in reply to: Eccentric (elliptical orbit around null object)

That expression should work for you. You’d have to calculate the width and height of the ellipse you wish in pixels and set them in the expression (they are currently 600px and 400px, respectively).

Alt+click the Position stopwatch and paste it in.

The comp window has a search box that’s very easy to overlook:

Is that what you’re looking for?

  • [tony lewis] “1) When I chose MOV as the render container, the “RGB and alpha” option is grayed out – the only choices are either RGB or Alpha.”

Click Format Options and select a codec that supports alpha — the Animation codec will do — and then you’ll be able to select RGB + Alpha.

February 20, 2019 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Motion path bezier handles disappeared

When you hover the pen tool cursor over a point and it changes from the pen into a sharp V-shaped pointer, that’s the Convert Vertex tool — and clicking it without dragging on a point will convert it from Bezier to linear. Perhaps that’s what happened to you?

  • Ae defaults to blending in a gamma-encoded space, but Pr defaults to blending in a linear space (when GPU acceleration is on). This probably accounts for the difference in compositing that you’re seeing. To fix this, you can either change Ae to match Premiere, or change Premiere to match Ae.

To change Ae, open your project preferences and either set the working space to a linear space, or check the “Blend colors using 1.0 gamma” box.

To change Pr, open your sequence settings and uncheck “Composite in linear color (requires GPU acceleration or max render quality)”.

  • [Chris Biagi] “Question: Is there a way to replace ALL of the “Comp A” instances with “Comp B” within the project window? I basically want the same effect as “replace footage,” but I’m not sure how to do this with precomps.”

Yes! It works just like Alt-dragging to replace footage. Hold down the Alt key, then drag the Comp B project item on the Comp A project item.
