The Beta is the X Driver.
The 9.0.1 releases are the new public release drivers.
For CS 5.5 you need to install the 9.0.1 driver first and then download / install the 9.0.1 Plug-Ins for CS 5.5.

In my case the red bar does not always mean rendering. The clips play fine.
In that demo I’m running an 8 Core MacPro with about 16 or 20GB of RAM, the ATI card and a fast SAN. All of that comes into play when you’re talking about realtime just like with Final Cut Pro.

Thanks for noticing the series! So far I’m finding my FCP workflow translates very nicely to PPro. Adobe even includes Keyboard Shortcuts from Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro 7 to make it even easier for folks to transition.
AJA Video Systems released the new CS 5.5 Plug Ins and now we have good playback to the external monitors so that’s great.
So far so good with PPro. Tomorrow we’ll be installing Avid MC as well for more testing and I’m planning to post some videos on that testing too.

There is an Auto Balance button in there but it generally is terrible. Makes everything blue.
The best auto balance is the person driving the controls. It’s quite easy to balance a shot in there, particularly using the curves in the Primary In room.

If you’re a freelancer you really should at least be familiar with Adobe and Avid products. Take some introductory training courses if you need or online training.
We’re transitioning away and in the process testing Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer and even Autodesk Smoke as they were kind enough to send us an evaluation copy.
In our limited testing so far I will say that your FCP skills will transition very nicely to Premiere Pro and from what I’ve been able to glean, CS6 will be even easier. We’re just installing Avid MC now and Smoke is not here yet so I can’t comment on those yet, but quite honestly both Adobe and Avid should be fairly easy transitions.

I’ve already had a lot of folks tell me these videos put their minds at ease over the uproar caused by Final Cut Pro X. by the way, if you want a tutorial for that here’s a great one by a kid who looks to be 12. I will have to try to hire this kid in a few years because he reminds me of myself at that age, only I was using 8mm film cameras….

The Monitor and Source Windows have independent controls. Right click in them and ensure both are set to Full Resolution.

I’m testing CS 5.5 right now with the AJA Kona 9.0.1 drivers on our Kona 3G. Getting a little strobiness to the video output here.
Not sure if it’s something to do with the Kona or me having to learn a different workflow in Premiere. I’m talking to AJA about this as well and will be reporting back here and also in my blog series about transitioning away from FCP.
If history is our guide, AJA will resolve this in short order if it is actually a problem or just a lot of us FCP editors adjusting to Premiere.
