I would not expect any huge bombshells, just continued improvement in workflows and even better under the hood data management.
The one big thing I would love to see would be an Adobe Anywhere solution for in-house use only where we could share projects / have the same projects open in multiple edit suites. Right now Anywhere starts in the six figures and goes up from there. We’re a small shop with shared storage. ALL we need is the ability to have two or more editors work on the same project, I don’t need the “edit across the cloud for six figures of your budget” solution.
I’d also love to see Transcode / Consolidate come along for the end of a project. Been asking for that one for two years now and hopefully it’ll come along soon.

March 23, 2014 at 8:13 pm in reply to: Premier Pro on an iMac – setting Monitor2 to show from interlaced timeline without wanting to convert to progressiveA mac cannot output a video interlaced signal. You’ll need something like an AJA IoXT or T-Tap or Blackmagic UltraMini Monitor to see the interlaced signal.
We run the IoXT with our two iMac workstations.

[Soumendra Jena] “The problem is, since Premire Pro CC, the Looks preview doesnt work.
I have reported it to RED GIANT many times, but no one has solved this.”
You must be running both the latest version of the Red Giant software AND the latest version of Premiere Pro CC.
Even then, you’re still going to have issues. We have them here. Most often it’s a black screen where the Preview should be or we see the wrong image in the preview window.
Been talking to Red Giant, they are aware of the situation and trying to rectify. My fix is to quit PPro and re-open when the preview window goes black.

March 4, 2014 at 1:51 am in reply to: Multi-Cam Interview Editing Workflow Suggestions (Prelude -> Premiere CC -> Plural Eyes 3)You don’t need PluralEyes with Premiere Pro CC, especially if you have audio on all sources, even just camera audio. CC will sync everything up.
That’s the main reason we use a real slate on every shoot now with multicam. That super loud CLAP makes for super easy sync operation in PPro no matter how many cameras and angles.

[Mark Suszko] “But aluminum isn’t magnetic, normally. You must mean a bauxite smelting operation, I’m guessing?”
The process of making the aluminum requires tremendous magnets in the building to separate the metals apparently. This is from a friend who has shot in a huge aluminum factory on multiple occasions. He MUST use film cameras when he goes in there to shoot. All electronic data would be wiped instantly inside the building.

[Jason Jenkins] “I had no idea. Why is that?”
The entire building is one massive magnet. A DP friend of mine taught me that one.

There are a lot of applications where film is still the way to go. For example, you can’t shoot with digital cameras in an Aluminum factory. Has to be film.

We use Screenlight for both client review and delivery. Clients can review the materials and make comments right on the same site.
When the project is done, we upload the full resolution file to the same site and they can download it from there.
Super simple and Screenlight works on all mobile devices make the review process even easier for our clients. In addition, we can assign the same client to multiple projects so they only need to know one username / password combination for the main site and then we just add them to whatever projects they need to review.

We had a very successful Southeast Creative Summit this past October in Atlanta and we’re making plans to bring that back this fall. It was three days of workshops led by working professionals in all aspects of the industry and business.
I would also highly recommend NAB in Las Vegas each April as the place to see anything and everything regarding our industry in one place. There is also the Post World training conference that runs concurrent to the NAB Show.

[Bill Davis] “The people who do the work in the trenches will likely NEVER have the loyalty to their employers that prior generations did.
“When you treat your people right, yes they absolutely will have that same loyalty.
Case in point, I had to leave my company abruptly to attend to a family emergency back home. During that time, a snowstorm hit Atlanta that shut down the city and my offices for two days. A project was due in Germany the following Monday evening.
My staff volunteered to take iMacs home with portable drives so they could continue working on the project at home to make sure the project was not only completed on time, but got the same level of attention to detail that is a hallmark of our company. Project was delivered yesterday and the client was extremely happy with the final product and the extra effort by my team.
And this is not an isolated incident. My staff continually does whatever is needed to make sure the client is happy with the end product and does extra work around the shop to help keep everything in great shape.
I treat my staff the way I like to be treated and it pays back tenfold in loyalty.
