  • Premier Pro on an iMac – setting Monitor2 to show from interlaced timeline without wanting to convert to progressive

Hi. Am I being completely stupid? I recently bought an iMac 27 inch 3.5Ghz Intel Core i7 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX780M 4096 MB graphics card. I have hooked my imac up to a Panasonic HD TV. I am editing on this iMac using Premier Pro. The footage and timeline is XDCAM HD (interlaced) so I would like to see the interlaced footage on my Panasonic TV monitor. But the playback setting for the Panasonic only seems to give an option of ’24p conversion on Monitor2 60 1920x1080p’

I also have a Macpro which I edit on using Final Cut v7 which has an option in the video/audio choices for setting up interlaced or progressive for video playback. But I cannot find a similar choice/setting for Premier Pro on my iMac.

Can anyone help – am I being completely stoopid????

    Thank you

    Roy

A mac cannot output a video interlaced signal. You’ll need something like an AJA IoXT or T-Tap or Blackmagic UltraMini Monitor to see the interlaced signal.

We run the IoXT with our two iMac workstations.

    Hi Walter

Many thanks for your reply and your assistance – but I am still a little confused. You see I have been using the same Macpro now for about 8 years, editing with FCP v6&7 and I have been able to output interlaced or progressive video to my ext monitor as I so choose via audio/video settings in FCP.

It’s this setting choice that I do not seem to have on my new iMac using Premier Pro.

Did you mean that no iMac can output interlaced video to an ext monitor – rather than no mac generally?

Many thanks again for your help.

Your old Mac either had an I/O device like Walter is referring to to actually output interlace…

Computers all display progressive without some sort of a conversion device.
