It’s impossible for any software manufacturer to test their software with the infinite number of possible hardware / software configurations that every single user of their product will have. The system you’re running is different from mine which is different than anyone else’s. So it’s impossible for any software manufacturer to release a “bug free” software that will work on every single computer out there.
We’ve had people on these forums who almost can’t get their FCP systems to run. Others run them 24/7 with zero issues. What’s different about them? The setup, how they’re maintained, the temperature / humidity of the room, the software installed, the hardware installed, the plug-ins, how fragmented the drives are, etc., etc., etc……
So it’s not that we’re saying it’s “OK” for Apple to release buggy software on us, it’s just that the software they do release has been proven to work to their standards on whatever machines the software is tested on. So if you want to live on the “bleeding edge” and install every single update / upgrade the moment they’re released, you have to accept that you may have problems unique to your setup that did not present themselves in testing, especially pro apps like we use.

If you’re running the 844x, you should actually have more realtime featurs with that system than an FCP system. One of my clients has three 844’s and they’re incredibly fast with realtime effects across 8 tracks of video and a much smarter rendering engine. Of course they cost a lot more.
As for heading in the right direction, only you can decide that. Final Cut Pro is a professional editing application that is certainly different than Media 100. You have to decide if you like the interface and the editing style vs. all the other solutions out there. You haven’t told us what you do, so there’s really no way to suggest a system. Here, we cut SD and HD broadcast, corporate and independent film projects with both a Kona 2 and an Aurora PipePro system.

Page loads aren’t the problems with Safari, it’s just general functionality. I simply ran the whole Network setup three times in Tiger and then it finally “stuck” so as far as surfing the internet, Safari is as fast as ever with the cable modem. Just a lot of sites don’t seem to work right anymore so I’m running Firefox now and everything just works.

No software is ever completely debugged when it’s released. Considering that Apple was running FCP 5 on Tiger all NAB and I never heard any issues with demos and the like, it should be ok to go. I’ve found that Safari is very screwy since updating to Tiger, but everything else seems to be working pretty well. I now have 2 G5 Dual 2.0’s so I’m going to install Tiger / FCP 5 on one system and see how that works out before installing it on my main system.

Check this out… “Ok, so that thread just says…. “The Wait is Over.” And…….. that’s about it. No shipping date or anything else. The manual was released today on the Apple site so that tells us that the product is out to print, but no official shipping date yet. I think the thread down below discussing the manual pretty much told us the product was getting ready to ship.
I check my Order Status every day and it still says it’s processing the order and that it will ship on or before 06/01/2005. So the moment I see that changed to “Now Shipped” I’ll know that the product is on it’s way.
But to get excited and say “The Wait is Over” today seems a bit silly since nobody has the product and nobody seems to know when they will have the product.
I’m betting it ships next week towards the end of the week if the manual was released today. But that’s just a guess.

Yep, the Sony recognizes both 720 and 1080i on the HD side via Component and it also recognizes SD via Component, Composite or S-Video. Amazing monitor at such a low cost.

Why print it out? I just use the Help feature within the app to do a search for whatever it is I’m looking for. I’d actually prefer to have it paperless so I don’t have to put the manuals on the shelf.
And FYI, I checked my order status again and it still says “This will ship on or before 6/1/2005” so it looks like Apple is still on track for delivery, especially since the manual has been ‘put to bed’ and ready for print.

There is an Apple DV Advanced mode and of course there’s the DVCPro HD 24 mode which are both supplied by Apple and allow you to edit in true 24fps. I’m pretty sure both of these will work even with an Io system.
