If you’re running the 844x, you should actually have more realtime featurs with that system than an FCP system. One of my clients has three 844’s and they’re incredibly fast with realtime effects across 8 tracks of video and a much smarter rendering engine. Of course they cost a lot more.
As for heading in the right direction, only you can decide that. Final Cut Pro is a professional editing application that is certainly different than Media 100. You have to decide if you like the interface and the editing style vs. all the other solutions out there. You haven’t told us what you do, so there’s really no way to suggest a system. Here, we cut SD and HD broadcast, corporate and independent film projects with both a Kona 2 and an Aurora PipePro system.

May 14, 2005 at 4:29 pmSince between now and June is when FCP 5 ships, it is a good time to decide whether to make the switch and/or the addition NLE platform. I noticed he wants to do multicam editing so FCP 5 would be the time to move without having to pickup a plug-in for that functionally.

May 14, 2005 at 5:19 pmYou say your planning to move to FCP, so that means you dislike something about the Media100 or you see posiblities with FCP. Could you define that for us so we can better help you. I’ve work with media100i for 7 years and the move to FCP was difficult at first but the work flow payoff was worth it. I have not worked on a 844X so I can’t speak to that but find a local FCP editor that has Media100 expierience and see the differences. Watch him/her in an edit if possible. Plus as has been mentioned before FCP may not be the right system for what you do.
