Yes.
I use a “Bug out Bag” backpack which contain all necessary equipment except lights and tripod.
I just came back from an Afghanistan trip and made the grave error of putting the battery charger in the luggage which was lost for 6 days. I could scramble together lots of kit such as light and tripod from friends, but the battery charger is unique and there are none to be had… not even for ready money.
To sum up.
If you travel overseas these days do not put any critical or unique equipment in the checked luggage.
Also
Transferreing SxS card content to hard drive in the middle of the desert is a nervous affair.
Buy that extra 16 G card. It could save you an ulcer.Cheers

Thanks for the quick response guys.
I tried all your suggestions.
No luck.
The machine is a 12 inch aluminium Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4.9
The fault started on FCP 5.1.
I am now running my old trusty FCP 4.0.1.I played back from my DSR 11, so I switched to the Sony HVR Z1E camera and get the same fault.
I played the stuff into my old G4 titanium and my G5 desktop system with no problem.Changed destination hard drives as well.
I do not gt the tearing that you mentioned, but a picture freeze for about 4 seconds. It then continues to digitize and the audio is out of sync by the amount of time it remained frozen.
Could it be a Quicktime issue? The strange thing is that I have been using the laptop on the road from Baghdad to Bangkok for at least 2 years with no problem( except for a change of hard drive 8 months ago).
The chicken is now cooking so I did get something out of it.
Cheers

Another thought.
I had a problem with mixing scenes shot in 4:3 and 16: 9 recently.
An easy way to resize is.
Bring the clip into the viewer.
Go to the Motion tab.
Go to Scale.
Resize by 133%.If you have a probem with anamorphic.
Go to Motion.
Go to Distort.
Go to Aspect Ratio.
Change by 33%.By the way.
The ratio question is not stupid.
It can be a real can of worms.V.L.

HI

Am trying to send a short ( 2 minutes) video to clients but in high quality mpg2.Cheers

Maybe…..
Go to your tools and open audio mixer.
When you play the edit you should get seperate audio signals. Check on the right hand side under the master fader column. The 2 speaker icons facing away from each other (just above the VU meters ) should not be darkened.
If the icon is darkened click it to release the mono function.
Hope that is all it is.
Cheers

Just thought.
Maybe.
If you speed up a sound you raise its pitch. Doubling raises it an octave.
Ifyou raise 2 khz tone by 1000% it can be heard by dogs but not you.

Pretty well.
Will chat.

Totally agree with all above.
If you are being solicited on a cost only basis, then he does not want you.
Had a similar situation a while ago. I refused the job. The person who finally did the work is still waiting to be paid.
Be the cream in the coffee, not the sediment.
Mull it over ASAP.
Cheers.

What is a camel?
A horse designed by a committee.
The problem is that your client is not aware of the conflicts that happen in these situations.
A common practice is to give 3 revisions and then the hourly rate kicks in. This is marked clearly on the contract.
I worked around a miltiple client problem once by building a small website and posting the video on it for them to view.
I was working in Baku, Azerbaijan and the clients were in Rome, Italy.
It was important that one person was designated by them to collect all the thoughts and ideas for change and them channel them to me by email cc’d to the group.
This stopped duplication and minimized conflict.
But.
There is a limit to this and at some point you have to take charge of the edit or it just goes on forever.
Clients appreciate a strong opinion if it is presenteds in a positive way.
Best of luck.
