My 12 inch powerbook laptop edit system was running fine for ages.

Now I am losing sync on capture.
    The playback tape keeps rolling.
The video is freezing for a few seconds and then continues to playback from where it froze.
Audio is recording without a break.
The video/ audio then is out of sync.
I have changed tape, camera, playback machine.
Even went back and reloaded FCP 4.
    Still have the problem.
    Any ideas?

Without more system info from you, I’ll just guess that your HD is either too FULL, too FRAGMENTED or it has some other disk-speed issues.

Restart, de-frag disk, repair permissions, run only FCP app during capture, trash your FCP preferences, wave a dead chicken over your head…

    😉

I am having the same problem with my imac g5, Lacie 250 gig hard drive running FCE 3.0 with a panasonic GS 300. I have erased and repartitioned my hard drive and same problem…. I have ran my setup for a year and a half, no problems. Now video freezes for a second or two, audio keeps trucking. From the freeze forward there is a audio/video tear. Is it my camera, g5, FCE, or hard drive. I am going to import to imovie and see if it freezes anf then import to final cut. If you figure something out let us know…. Good Luck.

Thanks for the quick response guys.
    I tried all your suggestions.
    No luck.
The machine is a 12 inch aluminium Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4.9
The fault started on FCP 5.1.
I am now running my old trusty FCP 4.0.1.

I played back from my DSR 11, so I switched to the Sony HVR Z1E camera and get the same fault.
I played the stuff into my old G4 titanium and my G5 desktop system with no problem.

Changed destination hard drives as well.

I do not gt the tearing that you mentioned, but a picture freeze for about 4 seconds. It then continues to digitize and the audio is out of sync by the amount of time it remained frozen.
Could it be a Quicktime issue?

The strange thing is that I have been using the laptop on the road from Baghdad to Bangkok for at least 2 years with no problem( except for a change of hard drive 8 months ago).

The chicken is now cooking so I did get something out of it.

    Cheers
