I’m definitely waiting to install Resolve on my mac before deciding. Hell, even if I can get ~18fps playback it’ll feel realtime compared to Color.
Side question: if Resolve is playing at less than real time, can it still do sound playback?

But the system has to have at least 8 cores, it seems. I’m seeing benchmarks where the 2009 and 2010 quad core systems return slower than 2008 results. Does that sound about right?

I suppose either way I’ll give it a whirl on my 2008 and see what happens, and as money permits upgrade.

Best I could suggest to you is Lenovo L220x display, if you can find one. The only 22″ 1920×1200 display (as far as I know). I’ve had one for a while, and it’s a pretty darn good screen, although emits a bit too much heat for my tastes.

I’m curious if anyone’s benchmarked a 2008 system for performance. I believe every time I’ve seen it discussed words like “performance would be lower” are used, implying a theoretical estimation. But I haven’t quite heard anyone come out and say “yes, we’ve ran it, and this is how it’s limiting”
I’m just a little confused because from what I understand the 2009 model differs from 2008 by including 4 PCIe x16 slots, newer type RAM, and a faster processor architecture (not necessarily clock speed). But since the 2 GPUs will run on 2008’s 16x lanes, and DaVinci does all graphics computation on the GPU, I am not sure what’s going to be slowing the system down.
I’d love to know what it is that proves to be problematic on the 2008 models and how it actually affects performance.

Yyeah, I mean there’s always the side of your mac pro but that’s almost TOO cruel!
If HDMI is a deal braker, one could always get an HDLink – at $470 it’s definitely affordable and gives you some more image calibration control which is always nice.

Exactly what I did actually. I used empty space on the plate of my raid controller to create a hole large enough for 1 HDMI cable. Works, even if it’s not exactly pretty!

Seems pretty comprehensive. I guess 2008 model macs are officially not certified? Hopefully they’ll work anyway!
Also, does this mean we’re close to release?
